Art Village: Berlin's diverse art scene at Arena Park
Berlin Festival wouldn't be a mirror of the German capital if its diverse art scene wasn't part
of the line-up. After having announced 80+ acts for Berlin Festival, it's time to take a look at
our Art Village, with over 60 artists taking over the festival site before and during the event.
It's gonna be bigger, more diverse and more colourful than ever!

»Berlin Festival is more than just music. As a microcosm of Berlin, it mirrors the German capital's
diverse subcultural movements. With 80+ acts, Berlin Festival is defining its musical endeavours of
2015. In terms of its visual and artistic identity, our Art Village comes into play. Over 60 artists will
take on the Arena Park and the Oberhafenkantine to paint, design, sing, conjure, dance, build, spray,
create and perform, turning the festival grounds into a memorable feast for all the senses – a festival
experience with a soul and lots of charm, bigger, more diverse and more colourful than ever!«, says
Fruzsina Szép, Berlin Festival's new Project Director and former Programme Director of the Sziget
Festival.
As a place of positive feelings, creativity, innovation and inspiration, we welcome wonderful
newcomers alongside old friends like 44Flavours, Various & Gould, graffiti artists 1UP and Il-Jin
Atem Choi and garbage bin designer Uwe Lewitzky, we also welcome many new faces to our Art
Village this year. The Berlin School for Acrobatic Arts will be on location with juggling and
equilibristics. Dave Ortiz will exhibit his art at the local vodka distillery Our/Berlin. On top, the
location offers guided tours and vodka tastings. Bike artist Karsten Konrad, Phil and his »art stall«,
»air artists« Sol`Air, magician The Great Joy Leslie, Electro Swing Revolution hosting a swing
brunch, floral delights by Midsommar Flowers, our Bewildered Funfair and street theatre company
Lyrical Minutes In The City have also been added to the bill. By the way, The Wishing Tree will
grant you a wish if you ask nicely. At Art Market, artists such as Serigraffeur, Noggad, Cyroline,
Inlace Jewelry and Elicamente will offer their artworks at reasonable prices.
Some of the German poetry slam scene's finest will be taking over the Poetry Saloon. Confirmed
are Julian Heun, Noah Klaus, Malte Roßkopf, Volker Surmann, Sebastian Lehmann and many more.
Berlin stands also for cabaret, variety, burlesque, chanson, dance, circus and – of course – partying.
We're happy to present these facets in this year's Art Village as well. Numerous performances will
be hosted at White Trash Fast Food under the banner of TRASHité.
The Busker Diaries made it their goal to document and support local street musician's interests.
With the Busker Diaries Campfire @ Our/Berlin, they bring current and former street musicians to
Berlin Festival for the first time. Alice Phoebe Lou, Charity Children, Stephen Paul Taylor a.k.a.
SPT, Katie O'Conner and Tice confirmed their performance. The two singer-songwriters Graham
Candy and Louis Baker as well as piano player Gabriel John a.k.a. Tuesday Born had already been
confirmed.
The first artworks are already finished and scattered all over town. We asked a variety of artists to
create their visions of the Berlin Festival and to paint them on five huge walls exterior walls. You
will be able to spot them until the end of May.

Art Village: Berlins Kunstszene im Arena Park
Über 80 Acts haben wir für das Berlin Festival bereits angekündigt. Das Festival wäre
jedoch kein Spiegel der Hauptstadt, würde nicht auch die Kunstszene Einzug auf dem
Festivalgelände halten. Deshalb stellen wir vier Wochen vor dem Startschuss nun unser Art
Village mit bisher 60 bestätigten Acts, Aktionen und Künstlern vor, die vor und während des
Festivals den Arena Park gestalten werden – größer, bunter und vielfältiger als je zuvor!

»Das Berlin Festival kann mehr als nur Musik. Als Mikrokosmos der Hauptstadt spiegelt das
Festival die vielschichtigen, subkulturellen Strömungen Berlins wieder. Mit über 80 Acts im Lineup gibt das Berlin Festival zielstrebig die musikalische Richtung vor. In Sachen visueller Gestaltung
kommt deshalb nun unser Art Village ins Spiel. Das 'Kunstdorf' ist auch in 2015 mit 60 Acts,
Aktionen und Einzelkünstlern auf dem gesamten Festivalgelände vertreten, um zu malen, zeichnen,
designen, tanzen, singen, zaubern, dichten, gestalten, sprayen und zu performen – mit viel Charme
& Charakter, größer, bunter und vielfältiger als je zuvor!«, Fruzsina Szép, neue Projektleiterin vom
Berlin Festival und ehemalige Programm-Direktorin vom Sziget Festival.
Als Ort der positiven Gefühle, der Kreativität, Innovation und Inspiration begrüßt das Art Village
neben alten Bekannten wie 44Flavours, Various & Gould oder den Graffiti-Künstlern 1UP und IlJin Atem Choi auch viele neue Gesichter im Arena Park und bei der Oberhafenkantine. Unter
anderem stellt Dave Ortiz seine Kunst in der Wodka-Destillerie Our/Berlin aus, in der obendrein
Führungen und Wodka-Proben angeboten werden. Die Staatliche Schule für Artistik Berlin ist mit
Jonglage und Equilibristik vertreten. Fahrradkünstler Karsten Konrad wird vor Ort sein, Phil und
sein »Kunstbüdchen«, die Luftartisten Sol'Air, der Magier The Great Joy Leslie, die Electro Swing
Revolution mit einem Swing-Brunch, Blumenkränze von Midsommar Flowers, die Kirmes der
Verpeilten oder das Straßentheater Lyrical Minutes In The City. Der Wishing Tree schickt außerdem
eure Wünsche in die Stratosphäre. Auf dem Art Market bieten unsere Künstler ihre Werke außerdem
zum Kauf an, u.a. Serigraffeur, Noggad, Cyroline, Inlace Jewelry und Elicamente.
Die Juwelen der deutschen Poetry-Slam-Szene treffen im Poetry Saloon aufeinander. Mit dabei:
Julian Heun, Noah Klaus, Malte Roßkopf, Volker Surmann, Sebastian Lehmann und viele mehr.
Berlin steht für Cabaret, Varieté, Burlesque, Chansons, Tanz, Zirkus, Party. Auch diese Facetten
sind im Art Village präsent. Unter dem Banner TRASHité finden im White Trash Fast Food
zahlreiche Performances statt.
Die Busker Diaries haben es sich zum Ziel gesetzt, Straßenmusik in allen Belangen zu
dokumentieren und zu unterstützen. Mit dem Busker Diaries Campfire @ Our/Berlin bringen sie
nun erstmals die Straßenmusiker – und die, die als solche begonnen haben – der Stadt auf's Berlin
Festival. Bestätigte Musiker sind: Alice Phoebe Lou, Charity Children, Stephen Paul Taylor a.k.a.
SPT, Katie O'Conner und Tice. Auch die bereits angekündigten Singer-Songwriter Graham Candy
und Louis Baker sowie Pianist Gabriel John a.k.a. Tuesday Born treten im Rahmen des Art Villages
auf.
Die ersten Kunstwerke lassen sich übrigens schon jetzt bestaunen. Mit der Vorgabe, ihre Vision des
Berlin Festivals umzusetzen, haben verschiede Künstler fünf riesige Berliner Häuserwände gestaltet,
die bis zum Festival zu sehen sein werden.
