April 2015 12 Uhr Thomas Baumann ist anwesend […] Die Maschine ist ein sich permanent weiterentwickelndes Werkzeug, das es mir ermöglicht - ich bezeichne es als Sichtbarmachung von einer immanenten Intelligenz - im Rahmen der maschinellen Möglichkeit hochpräzise Strukturen und Linien zu erzeugen, Überschneidungen, Auslöschungen inklusiver vorprogrammierter bzw. auftretender Fehler. Diese Fehler sind es letztendlich, die aus dem standardisierten Prozess heraustreten, um daraufhin die dauernde Frage der Malerei zu beantworten. Der konzeptuelle Ansatz wird dabei im Werk dargestellt, und die Verwendung der Maschinen ist nur ein Mittel, eines das jetzt vielen Künstlern zur Verfügung steht. Man könnte sagen positive Beispiele der Aufklärung und Bildung. So einfach die Bilder auf den ersten Blick scheinen, erzählen sie bei genauer Betrachtung eine Menge über Logik, Konsequenz, Ansätze von Wissenschaft, Intelligenz, und auch Ordnung und Unordnung/Chaos. Dieser Reiz mit Maschinen zu arbeiten zieht sich beinahe durch mein gesamtes künstlerisches Schaffen, im Bild ist es zusätzlich möglich, einen Moment der Zeit und Rhythmik im festgeschriebenen Zustand darzustellen, Abbildung eines dynamischen Prozesses. Diese Komponenten zusammen stellen damit einen Teil der menschlichen Fähigkeit und Existenz dar, und auch der Intelligenz oder dem Geist, wenn einem dieses Wort besser gefällt. Um das wahrnehmen bzw. darstellen zu können nehme ich einen Computer bzw. eine Maschine als Hilfsmittel, als Werkzeug - eine Möglichkeit Vergangenheit, Gegenwart und Zukunft zur Disposition zu stellen, das, was wir als einziges wirklich zur Verfügung haben und im besten Falle auch mitgestalten können. It is these mistakes, ultimately, that step out of the standardised process in order to answer the recurring question of painting. The conceptual approach finds expression in the work, and the use of the machines is only a means, one that is at the disposal of many artists. We might call this positive examples of enlightenment and education. As simple as the pictures may appear at first sight, at a second glance they tell us a lot about logic, consequence, the methods of science, intelligence, and also order and disorder/chaos. The attraction of working with machines has accompanied me through most of my career. In the picture, moreover, it is possible to depict a moment of time and rhythm in a fixed condition, to represent a dynamic process. These components, put together, consequently illustrate a part of the human ability and existence, and also the human intelligence, or mind, for those who prefer the word. In order to perceive this, or to be able to depict it, I avail myself of a computer or a machine for an aid, for a tool – a possibility to put the past, the present and the future up for negotiation, i.e. that which is the only thing ultimately at our disposal and which, in the best case, we can also help shape.
