Semester Vorstand der SHSG 2014/2015 | The Student Union board 1. Erläutere kurz dein daily business: 1. What does a normal day look like for you? Der Vorstand IT und Campus befasst sicher einerseits mit der IT der SHSG und andererseits mit dem Campusleben an der HSG. Es besteht eine gute Balance zwi-‐‑ schen strategischen und operativen Tätigkeiten. The board member IT and Campus deals with the IT of the Student Union on the one hand and with the campus life on the other. There is a decent balance between strate-‐‑ gic and operative tasks. Zum IT-‐‑Bereich gehört die Gestaltung der Website der Studentenschaft. Ebenso wird der SHSG, den Vereinen und Studierenden an der HSG eine IT-‐‑Infrastruktur durch den Vorstand zur Verfügung gestellt. Es besteht eine enge Zusammenarbeit mit dem Ressort Marketing. Ausserdem hat der Vorstand IT eine gewichtige Stimme in den Gremien der Uni, welche universitäre IT-‐‑Projekte diskutieren. Main parts of the IT are the administration of the website. Furthermore the board member offers an IT-‐‑infrastructure to the Student Union itself, the clubs and the students at HSG. There is a close cooperation with the resort Marketing. Additional-‐‑ ly, the board member holds an important opinion in the committees of the Uni, which are occupied with IT-‐‑concerns. Das Ressort Campus befasst sich mit Projekten der SHSG wie dem „Ruheraum“ oder „freiraum“. Auch in Verbindung mit diesem Ressort besteht Einsitz in wichtige Gremien wie etwa der „Stiftung Studentenwohnungen“ und der Mensakommission. The resort Campus deals with projects such as the “Ruheraum” or “freiraum”. You will have a seat in the “Stiftung Studentenwohnungen” and the Mensakommission. 2. Welches war für dich die lehrreichste Erfahrung in deinem Amtsjahr? 2. What was the most educational experience of your year in office? Die wesentliche Erfahrung ist, dass man mit seinen Herausforderungen wächst. You grow with your challenges. Im Gegensatz zu Gruppenarbeiten an der Uni sammelt man echte Teamerfahrung, weil die Zusammenarbeit länger und vor allem intensiver ist. Bei Teams kommt es nicht auf die Zahl der Mitglieder an, sondern man braucht einfach gute Leute. Die Zeit im Vorstand ist eine optimale Gelegenheit sich auf dieser Ebene weiterzuentwi-‐‑ ckeln. In contrast to group work at the Uni you gain true team experience, because the cooperation is longer and more intense. A crucial factor for team performance is not the number of members but you need good people. As board member you have the perfect opportunity to further develop yourself in this concern. Die Zeit in der SHSG betrachtete ich als Möglichkeit, mich in verschiedenen Projek-‐‑ ten auszuprobieren. Es ist sicherlich wertvoll seine eigene Arbeitsweise bereits vor dem Berufseinstieg kennenzulernen, um später reibungslos einzusteigen. It is also a possibility to test yourself in different projects. It is beneficial to know your method of operation before entering the job market. You will learn that much optimism and focus is needed to successfully implement projects. Es bedarf einer grossen Portion Optimismus und Fokus um Projekte erfolgreich durchzuführen. Dies wirst du während deiner Amtszeit zur Genüge erleben. You’ll gain a good insight on how a public institution functions. Interestingly, the decision processes are quite different to those of private companies. Man gewinnt einen sehr guten Einblick in eine staatliche Institution und lernt ihre Funktionsweise kennen. Interessant sind hierbei die Entscheidungsprozesse, die sich doch recht stark von privatwirtschaftlichen Unternehmen unterscheiden. 3. Wie hast du Vorstandsamt, Studium, Job und Freizeit unter einen Hut gebracht? The position will definitely become a main part of your daily life. However you should not consider the time as “work”. It’s much more than that. Definitiv wird das Vorstandsamt ein Hauptbestandteil deines Tagesablaufs einneh-‐‑ men. Die Zeit im Vorstand darf man jedoch nicht als „Arbeit“ betrachten. Es ist viel mehr als das. In our board the personal relation was really nice and we became good friends. Thus, you can consider parts of it as “freetime”. Unser Vorstand hat von der Chemie her sehr gut gepasst und sehr starke Freund-‐‑ schaften haben sich herausgebildet. So kann man das Engagement im Vorstand in Teilen definitiv auch als „Freizeit“ betrachten. Im Vorstandsamt lernt man effizient zu arbeiten und kann auf diese Weise das Stu-‐‑ dium auch bewältigen. Da es sich um ein Ehrenamt handelt, musst du dein Einsatz schlussendlich mit der selbst vereinbaren. Keine Angst, während der Prüfungs-‐‑ und Lernphase kannst du dich auf die Prüfungen konzentrieren und der Vorstand läuft auf Sparflamme. 4. Welche Kompetenzen muss dein/e Nachfolger/in mitbringen? IT-‐‑Kenntnisse sind bezüglich der Website von Vorteil, aber nicht zwingend. Grund-‐‑ sätzlich solltest du gut mit Computern umgehen können. Ich selber habe mit gerin-‐‑ gem Vorwissen angefangen. 5. Dein abschliessendes Statement? Im Vergleich zu dem Studium an der Uni lernt man ungleich viel, das einem später auch nützlich ist. Es gibt Leute, die zuschauen was passiert, sich wundern was geschieht und solche die bestimmen, was sich ereignet. Welcher Gruppe ordnest du dich zu? Universität St. Gallen Hochschule für Wirtschafts-, Rechtsund Sozialwissenschaften sowie Internationale Beziehungen (HSG) 3. How did you balance your duties in holding office with your studies, job and free time? You’ll learn to work efficiently and thus you will see that you can pursue your stud-‐‑ ies as well. Since it is an honorary office, you have to determine your commitment by yourself. No panic, during the examination and learning phase you may concentrate on your exams and the activities of the SHSG will be just ticking over. 4. What skills will your successor need to have? Of course IT-‐‑skills concerning our website are beneficial, but they are not necessary. Basically you should have a good understanding of computers. I personally started with little previous knowledge. 5. Final thoughts? In contrast to the degree courses at the Uni you’ll learn many things, which are particularly useful for your future life. There are three kinds of people: The ones who watch what happens, wonder what happens and those who make things happen. Which group do you belong to?
