James Halliday 2014 Wine Companion Reviews 1 August 2013 Beelgara Regional Reserve Watervale Riesling 2012 Beelgara Black Label Clare Valley Grenache Rose 2012 RATING: 94 Points Price: $24.99 Light straw-green; a powerful, lime-laden, bouquet and palate reflect the quality of the grapes. Excellent minerally acidity balances the wine and lengthens the finish. RATING: 90 Points with Special Value Price: $17.99 Light, bright puce; mounts a case for all Clare Valley grenache to be turned into rose, but - of course - that won’t happen. Fragrant raspberry and red cherry fruit on the bouquet and palate provides plenty of flavour without the use of residual sugar. Beelgara Regional Reserve Springview Shiraz 2010 RATING: 93 Points Price: $39.99 Dense, deep purple-crimson; only 3 tonnes of grapes (making 3200 bottles) were available from the Springview Vineyard. You will be rewarded with a full-bodied shiraz, black fruits, licorice and ripe tannins matured in quality oak. Beelgara Black Label Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2012 RATING: 92 Points with Special Value Price: $17.99 This is an impressive Adelaide Hills sauvignon blanc with a focused, linear citrus and herb palate running through to a fresh and lively finish. Beelgara Black Label Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 RATING: 92 Points with Special Value Price: $17.99 Excellent crimson-purple, the cassis-laden bouquet accurately tells of the juicy fruits of the palate, again led by cassis; oak is part of the picture, as are fine tannins, but this is a fruit-driven wine with very good balance, and a prosperous future. Beelgara Black Label Clare Valley Shiraz 2010 RATING: 91 Points with Special Value Price: $17.99 Very good crimson hue and depth; this is a pretty delicious wine, with abundant ripe plum and black cherry fruit on its medium-bodied palate; its charm comes from its sinuous, fluid mouthfeel and fresh, airy finish. Beelgara Regional Reserve Riverina Botrytis Semillon 2009 RATING: 91 Points Price: $24.99 Full glowing gold; a tangy, sweet semillon with citrussy acidity neatly balancing the cumquat and vanilla sweetness on entry; good overall complexity. Beelgara Black Label Clare Valley Merlot 2011 RATING: 90 Points with Special Value Price: $17.99 Light, bright red-purple; a surprise with its clear varietal fruit profile on both the bouquet and palate; vigilance in the vineyard and skill in the winery has made the most of the cool vintage, with cassis fruit and the barest touch of savoury/ black olive on the finish. Beelgara Black Label Adelaide Hills Pinot Grigio 2012 RATING: 89 Points Price: $17.99 Pale quartz; in true grigio style, focuses on green apple and nashi pear, wrapped in a wreath of minerally acidity, the finish crisp and fresh. Beelgara Estate Range Pinot Grigio 2012 RATING: 87 Points with Special Value Price: $9.99 Pale straw-green; this wine over-delivers at this price point, with a nice drizzle of lemon over its core of pear fruit, the finish fresh and bright. Beelgara Estate Range Shiraz 2012 RATING: 87 Points with Special Value Price: $9.99 Light, bright crimson-purple; has juicy red fruit aromas and flavours, the French oak presumably from staves and/or chips (no dishonour at this price); the faintest touch of sweetness has been to the benefit of the wine. Great value. JAMES HALLIDAY 4½ STAR WINERY RATING 2014 With Special Value Rating: Wines considered to offer special value for money.
