PUZZLES BY NICK Nick always keeps a careful account of his expenses an periodically checks his records for possible errors. Once, while checking his accounts, he noticed that in January he had recorded a purchase of 11 pads of paper and 5 pencils, totaling $2.60. In February he had recorded 7 pads and 7 pencils, totaling $1.89, while in March he had entered 4 pads and 9 pencils, costing $1.38. "Aha !" exclaimed Nick, pointing to one of the entries. "Since the price of each item remained the same at a whole number of cents, this entry is wrong!" Can you tell which entry is wrong? He told her that the secret to a long life was to sprinkle a pinch of gunpowder onto her porridge every morning. The granddaughter followed this dictum religiously until her death at the venerable age of 103.She left behind 14 children, 30 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, 25 great great grandchildren and a forty foot crater where the crematorium used to be A Russian arrives in New York City as a new immigrant to the United States . He stops the first person he sees walking down the street and says, "Thank you Mr. American for letting me into this country, giving me housing, food stamps, free medical care, and a free education!" The passerby says, "You are mistaken, I am a Mexican." The man goes on and encounters another passerby. "Thank you for having such a beautiful country here in America ." The person says, "I not American, I Vietnamese. The new arrival walks farther, and the next person he sees he stops, shakes his hand, and says, "Thank you for wonderful America ! The person puts up his hand and says, "I am from Middle East . I am not American." He finally sees a nice lady and asks, "Are you an American?" She says, "No, I am from Africa. Puzzled, he asks her, "Where are all the Americans?" The African lady checks her watch and says, "Probably at work."
