` AGASSIZ LEGION ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION BRANCH 32, AGASSIZ, BC December 2014 \ REMEMBRANCE DAY 2014 THE SERVICE and PARADE: On November 11, the Remembrance Service started at 10:00 am at AESS exactly as planned. Following the service the parade to the Cenotaph formed up in the Municipal Hall parking lot. The route had to be changed this year due to new rules from the highways department concerning parades on provincial highways. The parade was led by the Legion Colour Party, the Harrison Highlanders, 1st Agassiz Scouts pushing disabled vets in wheelchairs, the RCMP, Ambulance personnel, Firefighters, Scouts, Cubs, & Beavers and most of the people from the service. A reviewing stand consisting of the Mayors and the Legion President was situated across the street from Prospera Credit Union. Even the wind did not stop our people from remembering the men and women who fought for our freedom. Taps preceded the 2 minute silence followed by Reveille, both played by Hannah Exley. During the silence a piper played the dirge. Then wreaths were placed by various organizations and businesses. Following the wreath ceremony, many people placed their poppies at the Cenotaph. The parade then departed for the Legion Hall where hot toddies, hot chili and hot dogs were eagerly consumed. Greg Hampson entertained with songs from all eras especially the post war years. 1st Agassiz Scouts laying a wreath Cadet Kaeden Van Oort presents wreath with President, Roy Wright Pictures courtesy of The AgassizHarrison Observer. When all the cash had been deposited, we raised over $9,700 in donations which is almost $1,500 more than last year. Thanks to all the Taggers, especially Army Cadets, Scouts, Guides, Junior Firefighters and the ACE students. And a thank you to the hard working Poppy & Remembrance committees: Colin Morris, Betty Brewer, Jim Johnson, and Mary Duncan. GEORGE ROWLAND EASTCOTT November 22, 1926 – November 15, 2014 It is with deep sadness that we report the passing of George Eastcott, husband of our Padre, Mary Duncan. George was a frequent visitor to our Legion and participated in many Legion functions. He was also a faithful member of Rosedale United Church and a life member of the Army, Navy and Air Force Club of Kelowna. He joined the Army on November 23, 1944. He loved to travel to Arizona and recently enjoyed a cruise to Alaska. His faithful companion was his dog, Nessie, who was never far from his side. They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old. Age shall not weary them, not the years condemn. At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, We will remember them.
