Are The
Knights!!!
Reading is important and there is no better way to snuggle in during the winter months than with a good
book! Take a look at the Turkey To Turkey information from Mrs. Ward with some incentives to read between now and the first of the year!
January 13th is our next community event, Neihardt Dinner and Math Game Night. Neihardt’s staff is busy
planning a fun night centered around math games at each grade level! Fat Brain Toys and The Pizza Pie
Guys will be here too! Please see inside for the flier. RSVP’s are required to join us for games and/or dinner! The Pizza Pie guys have changed the menu up this year and will be serving pancakes and sausages
with juice instead of pizza this year. We hope to see you all there!
We hope you have a wonderful Winter Break and we will see you next year! WINK!

The Season of Giving is upon us. Whatever faith you observe or culture
you practice, it is almost impossible not to be touched by the atmosphere that exists in December if you live in the United States. Yes., it is a
mixed bag! Retailers are scrambling to permeate our senses with the
message Buy, Buy Buy! If we stop and reflect however, we may see
past all of the gifting and tune into the sense of love and fellowship that
is behind it. I read something recently that described the season a
“abiding sense if return. Seems to stand outside of time. We are home
again…”
Whether home is a source of comfort or stress to us; we have the ability
to give and receive love from those close to us. Focus on who is truly
important in our lives and turn our attention to cultivating those relationships like giving water and fertilizer to a garden.
December lessons focused on friendship and giving. Ask a 1st grader
about not judging a present, or a person, by its outside appearance. 4th
graders practiced gratitude by writing thank you notes. All grades were
challenged to think of something (preferably not a Thing) that they
would like to give to someone else.
May the spirit of the giving season bring joy to each of you. Glad tidings for time spent with those whom you love!

Health Room Notes
FROM THE SCHOOL NURSE
With flu season upon us there are some things that can be done to help reduce the chance of getting/spreading this disease.
 Stay home when you are sick. If possible, stay home from work, school,
and errands when you are sick.
 Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
Throw the tissue away after use and wash your hands. If a tissue is not
available, cover your mouth and nose with your sleeve, not your hand.
 Wash your hands often with soap and water, especially after you cough
or sneeze. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based
hand rub.
 Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth. Germs spread this way.
 Clean and disinfect surfaces or objects. Clean and disinfect frequently
touched surfaces at home, work or school, especially when someone is ill.
*Information from CDC (Center for Disease Control and Prevention)
Health Room is in need of long pants in sizes 6-8
Read-A-Thon
We are sponsoring a read-a-thon to encourage kids to read from now until we come back in
January. When they need more entry slips, they can get them in the library OR I will have a
place where they can print them from our Library webpage.
Linda Ward, Teacher-Librarian
4th Grade Writing Test and 5th Grade Math Testing
On January 14th and 21st, 5th graders will complete middle school math testing and on January 28th, 4th graders will take
the state writing test. They have been working hard to prepare for these assessments. It is important that all students are
present for these testing dates. Please avoid making appointments or scheduling vacations during this time. In order for
your child to be as successful as possible on this assessment, please make sure that they get plenty of sleep, eat a healthy
breakfast, and come to school with a positive attitude.
