NIAAA honors NRMPS district athletic director Angela Miller
Nashville, NC – Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools District Athletic Director, Angela Miller, was
recently honored by the National Interscholastic Athletic Administration, NIAA.
Miller received the Distinguished Service Award, which is presented annually to individuals
from within the NIAAA membership in recognition of their length of service, special accomplishments
and contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local, state and national levels. Nominations are
submitted by state athletic directors associations, screened by the NIAAA Awards Committee and
selected by the NIAAA Board of Directors.
In 2006, Miller was named district athletic director and healthful living coordinator of NashRocky Mount Public Schools in Nashville, North Carolina. As athletic director, Miller oversees the
athletic programs in four high schools and works with the superintendent to develop the annual
system-wide budget and interprets board policy for the district’s athletic directors and coaches.
As the healthful living coordinator, Miller conducts and evaluates healthful living education
curriculum, staff training and budgets.

Miller is active at the state level, where she currently is a member of the board of directors of
the North Carolina High School Athletic Association. She has also served on the board of directors of
the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association (NCADA). In 2010-11, Miller was the board secretary
and was NCADA vice president in 2011-12.
Miller has continued her professional development by earning her national board certification
in physical education in 2006. She also earned her NIAAA Certified Master Athletic Administrator
(CMAA) certification in 2011 and became an Accredited Interscholastic Coach (AIC) through the NFHS
Coach Education Program in 2010.
Among her honors, Miller was North Carolina’s recipient of the NIAAA State Award of Merit in
2011. She also earned the NCADA President’s Award in 2013.
Miller was also recognized by School Board members at the January Board of Education
meeting.
When asked about her honor, Miller stated, “I am honored to be chosen for the DSA award. I
am blessed to work daily with an amazing team of principals, coaches, athletic directors, and student
athletes that empower me to make athletics a positive experience for all. I appreciate the
opportunities and the support that NRMPS has given me and I will continue to try to make our
student athletes and administration proud of athletics in our county.”
Miller was also recognized by School Board members at the January Board of Education
meeting.
