Covington Catholic High School Technology Usage – 1/4/2015
Students are responsible for practicing/displaying good behavior on school computer networks just as
they are in a classroom or a school hallway. Communications on the network are often public in nature.
General school rules for behavior and communications apply in all instances of technology usage.
The network is provided for students to conduct research and communicate with others. Access to
network services is given to students who agree to act in a considerate and responsible manner. Parent
permission is required. Access is a privilege - not a right. Access entails responsibility. Individual users of the
school computer network are responsible for their behavior and communications over the network. Student
users are to comply with school standards and will honor the agreements they have signed. The school will
restrict, monitor, and control the communications of individuals utilizing the network.
Network storage areas may be treated like school lockers. Network administrators may review files and
communications to maintain system integrity and insure that the system is used in a responsible manner. Users
should not expect that files stored on school servers will always remain private.
During school, teachers guide students toward appropriate materials. Outside of school, we encourage
families to bear the same responsibility for such guidance in the use of technology as they exercise with
information sources such as television, telephones, movies, social media websites, radio and other potentially
offensive media.
Each student will be assigned a username and password as a freshman; it is his responsibility to
safeguard and retain this information. Students will be assessed a fee to have passwords changed or accounts
re-enabled due to their negligence.
Schoolmaster/ Gradebook gives both the students and parents the capability to view grades and current
averages at any point in the semester. Login information is handed out at the beginning of the freshman year or
when a student transfers into CCH and remains the same until graduation. Parents that do not receive an
activation code or forget the logon name and/or password should contact Mr. Bob Lind via email at
[email protected] and provide him with both the parent’s name and student’s name. Students may see Mr.
Lind directly to recover this information. Students may also obtain this information from their Guidance
Counselors.

A second offense during a student’s high school career will result in a minimum of two weeks of detention,
including two Saturday Schools and removal from all technology usage at CCH for a minimum of two weeks.
Any infractions beyond the second offense will result in a minimum of three days of suspension from school

Depending on the severity of the infraction or the frequent abuse of this policy any offense may result in

Any work or assignments missed due to suspension of computer usage will either need to be made up
outside of school or will result in a grade of zero if completing the work outside of school is not an option. CCH
now offers “REMOTE ACCESS”, where design students may access certain programs (such as Adobe Creative
Suite 6) 24 hrs a day outside of school. Students can find the remote access directions on the home page of
www.CovCathDesign.org In a few instances, the instructor may require the student to download the FREE trial
version of software, should that be necessary (i.e. Google SketchUp, AutoCad, etc.).
