DIRECTIONS
Immersion Blackening:
1. Prepare surface, by bead blasting, to remove all oil and oxides. Protect from finger marks or other contamination.
2. Blacken by immersing the part in ABC BLACKENER™ solution. Mix one part ABC BLACKENER™ + three parts water, and contain it in a plastic tub. Be sure to wear rubber gloves. This solution carries out a chemical reaction with the metal. Soak the part with gentle agitation for 30 to 60 seconds or until the part is uniformly gray/black in color. Note: a non-adherent or splotchy finish indicates incomplete cleaning or deoxidizing.
3. Stop the reaction by rinsing with water for at least 15 seconds.
4. Seal the black finish immediately after rinsing off the blackener by immersing the part in ABC SEALANT™ solution, a clear protective top coat. Drying is not recommended before applying sealant by the immersion technique. Brush-On Blackening:
1. Prepare surface, by bead blasting, to remove all oil and oxides. Protect from finger marks or other contamination.
2. Apply ABC BLACKENER™, full strength, with a sponge or brush, using a plastic container as a catch basin. Be sure to wear rubber gloves. Since the solution carries out a chemical reaction with the metal, the best technique is to flood the surface with this liquid, or apply several thin coats, until the part is
uniformly gray/black in color. This reaction
usually takes about 10 to 30 seconds.
3. Stop the reaction by rinsing with water for
15 seconds.
4. Dry the part with forced air. Be sure to wear eye
protection. Wipe any residue off with a soft cloth
and seal immediately.
5. Seal the black finish by applying ABC
SEALANT™, a clear protective top coat. UPC Part # 45911
