Desert Gems gives a large percentage of the class fee to the instructors,

I. BASIC JEWELRY TECHNIQUES

BEGINNING NECKLACE-Trish

We've all had "those beads" -- from Mom's broken
necklace, a bargain store find, an old buddy. Learn
the basics of bead stringing and necklace finishes;
from there the bead world is yours!

ADVANCED EARRINGS - Gay and Trish
Offered: Thurs. Jan 22 7pm, Mon. Feb 23 7pm,
Mon. March 30 5:30 pm
Once you have taken beginning earring, enhance your jewelry making
skills by incorporating chain into your work and master your wiring
technique. Make waterfall earrings and finally learn the technique
on how to wire a top drilled bead!

MULTI-STRAND BRACELET USING CONES—Trish 5:30pm
Offered: Monday March 16
Complete a 3-strand bracelet in class using cones
to finish.

II. METAL WORK
METAL STAMPING– Trish—5:30 pm
Offered: Fri. Jan. 30, Fri Feb 13, Mon. March 2
Learn the basics to start stamping on metal. Make a pendant
by stamping on a metal blank, punching a hole, and oxidizing
and polishing the metal.
Tools will be available for use in class.
Cost: $30.00 (Plus supplies)
BASIC METAL– Leila—5:30pm

Wanting to work with metal? Not sure where to
begin? This is a great place to start. We will teach you how to
cut, file, shape and hammer out a pendant from nickel and
brass. *Tools will be available for use in class .

BEGINNING CHAINMAILLE – Donna— 1pm
Days offered: Sun. Jan 11, Sun. Jan 25,
Sun. Feb 8, Sat. Feb. 28
Learn how to make a beautiful bracelet by connecting
aluminum jump rings together in a specific weave called the
Byzantine. This bracelet may look intricate, but the weave is fairly
simple. You will be finished with your project in no time.
*This class is two hours long.*

III WIRE WRAPPING TECHNIQUES
WIRE TECHNIQUES– Caren—1pm

And you thought pliers were only for household repairs! Learn the
basics of shaping wire into jewelry components—ear wires, closures and bead cages.

WIRE WRAP PENDANT— Caren–1pm
Offered: Sat. Jan 17, Feb 14, March 14
Learn how to make a wire-wrapped bezel to set your
favorite cabochon stone into a pendant. Beginning
wire wrap experience is helpful, but not necessary.

WIRE WRAPPED PRONGED PENDANT 1pm—Caren

Want to learn to set a stone? Learn to incorporate
prongs to hold your stones in a wire wrap design.

IV BEAD DESIGN & TECHNIQUES
BEADED CROCHET NECKLACE— Judy –1pm

Need a good way to use up some of those leftover beads? We'll
need between 45/50 of similar-sized beads to create this easy
project. *Bring an "H" crochet hook with you.*

FUN WITH THE NEW BEADS! - Gay-7pm

Come in for an introduction to all out new beads! Design and
play to your hearts content with our seed bead expert.

KUMIHIMO.– Judy –1pm
Offered: Tues. Jan 13, 5:30pm, Sun. Feb. 23, 1pm
Kumihimo is a Japanese form of braid-making. Cords and ribbons are made by interlacing strands. Kumihimo is Japanese for
"gathered threads". This technique is relaxing and easy to
do. With endless possibilities you are only limited by your imagination.
