Michael J. Hargis State Farm Insurance Companies Mike Hargis, CLU ChFC CASL, began his State Farm career as an agent in Tennessee in 1979. He qualified as a Top 100 New Agent in 1980. Mike moved into agency management in 1981. He held numerous vice president roles in Texas and South Carolina. Mike is currently an area vice president serving Texas and Louisiana agents. Mike appointed all of the current 50 Texas agency field leaders. Texas has 40 percent of the State Farm Top 100 New Agents out of 1,200 companywide. Texas also had 13 MDRT agents in 2012. During Mike's watch, more than 700 agents have been recruited in Texas; the agency force has grown from 1,400 to more than 1,700. Mike earned his B.S. degree in biology from Austin Peay in 1974 and his M.A. degree in education from Middle Tennessee in 1976. Mike and Teresa have been married for 42 years; they have two children, both employed by State Farm: Michelle, an Arkansas agent, and Townsend, a Virginia sales leader.
