This month has been a short but busy one, as we celebrate
Advent, as we prepare for the
arrival of Jesus on Christmas
Day. On each Monday in
December, K-8th Grade gathered
for reflection, prayer, and
singing as we lit a candle on the
Advent Wreath. The first two
weeks we lit a purple candle, and this week we lit the pink
candle. The last purple candle will be lit this Sunday,
December 21. The students know that Christmas is near.
The excitement builds each week as we get closer to
celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ, and it is nice to begin
each week with a reminder of what this Season is all about.
Our students have been hard at work at school and also
learning songs, making crafts, participating in service
projects, and partaking in the spirit of the Season.
On behalf of the entire Saint Anthony Parish and School
community, I would like to wish you and your family a very
Happy and Blessed Holiday Season. May
God continue to bless you, now and
always!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!

The Holiday Gift Shop was a
great
success
and
the
students had a wonderful
time shopping for their family
and friends. Thank you to all
the parents, and grandparents
who volunteered to help our shoppers pick
gifts, write out their gift tags, wrap presents,
and have a fun experience. Thank you again
to Mrs. Christal Vierra for volunteering to
chair and work this special event….even
though her son has already graduated from
St. Anthony School and is in high school now.
She is an awesome volunteer!
A big Mahalo to Mrs.
Cathy Alana who
chaired the Habilitat
Christmas Tree sale!
The trees and wreaths
have been picked up
and are beautiful!
We appreciate all her
hard work in making this event a success!
On Friday, December 12, students and faculty
participated in a Christmas themed Safe and
Caring Schools activity. Family groups worked
together to craft
ornaments and wreaths
that will be sent to
the parish
homebound for the
holidays. The event
ended with Christmas
carols in the
courtyard. Thank you
to the Safe and Caring
committee for their
hard work in
coordinating this
event. A jolly time was
had by all! It was a
great way to work together in
service of others and to bring joy to others
during this festive Season.

Geography Bee
Our Middle School students have just wrapped up
another exciting year of participation in the
National Geographic Geography Bee. Students
answer questions about US and World
Geography. With one of our most exciting Bees
ever, 26 students qualified for the final rounds by
scoring at least a 6 out of 7 in our preliminary
rounds. Finally, after 13 rounds of questions in
the finals, we were able to choose a runner up
(Lillian Tracy of 7th grade) and a school
champion (Zachary Little of 6th grade). Zachary
will now take a written exam to qualify for the
State Geography Bee in March. State qualifiers
will compete in Washington DC for more than
$25,000 in scholarship awards. Good luck
Zachary! Thank you to Ms. Stewart for
coordinating the event!

Friday, December 12, marked the end of the
Second Quarter. We encourage everyone to keep
trying hard and doing their best as we enter into
the second half of our school year. Don’t forget to
check your child’s backpack on Friday, December
l9th, as report cards and Terra Nova results are
being sent home in the manila envelope. Please
be sure to review it, sign the envelope, and return
it to school in January.
On Tuesday, December 16, the entire school
participated in a schoolwide rehearsal for the
Christmas program. This was a wonderful
opportunity for the students to see each other
perform, and a to work out any “kinks” before the
program. Thank you to Mr. Stern, Mrs. Barros,
and the teachers for all their hard work in
preparing and organizing our program.
Wednesday, December 17, was Warrior Shirt
Wednesday. The Parish Penance Service was at 7
p.m.

On the evening of December 18, Saint Anthony
Parish School held our annual Christmas
Program entitled “The Symbols of Christmas”.
Everyone looked so nice in their Christmas
attire, and the students sang so beautifully. It
certainly put everyone into the Christmas
spirit! Thank you to the Christmas committee
for planning and coordinating such a wonderful
program this year.
Friday, December 19 marked our last day of
school this year (2014). We began with a
prayer service at which time we recognized
the von Recum and Gegg & Scherer family who
have received changes in military assignments.
Afterwards, everyone was excused back to
their classrooms for Christmas celebrations
before school ended at noon.
On Thursday, December 18, the ELC held its
annual Pajama Day and Polar Express Day. What a
fun and festive time was had!
Saturday, December 20 will be the PTSG’s
Christmas Trolley and Spaghetti Dinner. Thank
you to volunteer chairpersons, Heather and
Dan Pence, and all the volunteers who helped
to make this the best holiday event in Kailua!
