For the love of Brandon…
Brotherly love is
something 15 year old
Brandon Leneveu is a
real expert on, with six
brothers and sisters who
adore him completely.
Brandon has Duchenne
Muscular Dystrophy and
regularly visits Hope
House for respite care,
both with his family
and sometimes for an
independent stay.
His brothers and sisters
also spend time with our
Sibling Support team,
going out on trips that
give them time to be
“Brandon is such a
loving brother, which is
a good job really! We all
spend a lot of time at
Hope House and they
are fantastic in every
way,” says Lisa, who has
just taken part in an
incredible expedition
to raise money for the
hospice.
“Brandon first started
going to Hope House
shortly after he was
diagnosed at the age of
four. At first Nick would
stay with him, now he
loves it and although he
still likes us to stay he is
also quite confident to
stay on his own too.”
Hope House was also
on standby when
Brandon went to Alder
Hey Children’s Hospital
in Liverpool three
years ago for a major
operation.
“He was so brave,” recalls
Lisa. “He was singing
‘Glory Glory Man United!’
in a Liverpool Hospital
while going under
anaesthetic!
“Brandon then went to
Hope House to continue
his recovery and they
were amazing.
“We are always made
welcome even with the
tribe of children. The
sibling support workers
visit brothers and sisters
at school and home and
take them on trips to
give them some time to
be special.”
It was after Brandon’s
operation that Lisa
decided to take part in
a gruelling expedition
to climb Mount Toubkal
in Morocco and raised
a staggering £6,680 for
Hope House, ensuring
that the services her
family use are available
for other families too.
“I will never be able
to thank Hope House
enough for what they
do,” adds Lisa.
“The trip was the
hardest thing I have ever
done. Mount Toubkal
is 4167 metres above
sea level and at times I
didn’t think I could go
on as the terrain was
tough and temperatures
reached 40 degrees. “On the second day I
pulled a ligament in my
knee so I was in a lot of
pain. I really had to think
of why I was doing it,
about the children, the
staff and how they all
needed me to go on.
“I could not imagine not
having Hope House in
our lives. The support
they have given and
continue to give is
fantastic. I’m ready for
the next mountain now.”
