WORDS FROM THE MINISTER
Ephesians 2:10 says powerfully: “for we are God’s
masterpiece; God has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we
can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” And
John the Baptist tells us this as well when he said that the one
who is coming after him “will baptize you with the Holy
Spirit.” Think of that, we are God’s “masterpiece!” We are
God’s own finger-painting, not made of squiggles and blobs
thrown together by a happy child, but carefully and intricately
designed like a museum-worthy work of art.
So what does it mean to be “made in God’s image”?
Pastor Dick Straub has this quote of a friend who returned to
faith after a long walk on the wild side: “It was a number of
years of crashing and burning before I made the discovery that
I was not God. Finally, I realized that though I was not God, I
was OF God.” Realizing that we are made in God’s image
shows us two truths: how infinite the possibilities are with
God’s power and how tragic our unrealized potential is
because we simply don’t trust. God gives us that open
invitation: “Trust me and find the greatest gift ever given.”
