LOS ALTOS ATHLETIC
HIGHLIGHTS
A Season of Champions!
The Fall Season was a memorable one for
many of our programs and students. Three of
our programs were crowned Hacienda
League Champions and two of our programs
made appearances in the CIF Finals. In
addition, we had many of our students earn
All-League and All-San Gabriel Valley Honors.
The Boys Water Polo and Football teams
extended their seasons and had many
memorable moments en route to their magical runs to the CIF Finals. Boys
Water Polo won their 3rd straight Hacienda League Title and made their
second consecutive CIF Finals appearance. The team enjoyed big wins
against Glendora, Xavier Prep & La Serna before going up against a talented
Claremont team that proved to much to handle in the Finals. The Conquerors
had a great season and were led by SGV Player of the Year Justin Contreras,
who finished his career in 3rd place all-time on the CIF-SS scoring list.
The Football team maneuvered many obstacles throughout the season to finish
their season as the Central Division Runner-Up. The Conquerors had playoff wins
against South Hills, Monrovia & Bonita before taking on Colony in the Finals.
Thousands of Los Altos alumni and supporters came out to watch our boys
participate in an exciting championship game. Although our boys came up short
in the finals, the experience and memories made along the way will be something
all involved with the program will cherish forever.
The Girls Volleyball program had another strong season with all three levels of
play earning Hacienda League Titles. Varsity took on Bonita in the first round of
the CIF playoffs, but lost in 5 sets. The Lady Conquerors finished the season 18-13
and were led by Hacienda League MVP Mireya Rojo, who also earned 2nd team
All-SGV honors.
The Boys Cross Country team ran through the competition en route to a league championship and rounded
out our fall season dominance of the Hacienda League. The girls team finished in second place in the
Hacienda league while many of our students took home All-League honors. The Boys were led by Jonathan
Mijares and Danny Venegas, who earned All-SGV 2nd Team honors.

Basketball Season Highlights!
The Conqueror Basketball programs are off to a hot start with both the boys and girls varsity teams sporting
a 9-3 record heading into league play. The San Gabriel Valley Tribune has the girls ranked as the #2 team in
the valley while the boys are holding down the #4 spot.
The Varsity Boys team is coming off of a great showing in the Covina
Tournament where they defeated league foe Walnut to capture the
tournament title. The Conquerors defeated Northview, Bishop Amat
and Cajon en route to the championship. Christian Espinoza was
named the tournament MVP as he totaled 100 points throughout four
games in the tournament. Jayson Jones was named to the AllTournament team, scoring 16 points in each of the last two games with
his punishing inside game. Michael Barrera and David Tolmachoff have
also contributed significant minutes in the first half of the season.
The JV team is also coming off of a championship run as they went 3-1 in the Los Altos JV Tournament, only
losing to a very good Damien team. The team has shown dominance in the early half of the year, boasting a
30 point victory over Mountain View and a 50 point victory over Northview. The team has received standout
performances from Art Vargas, Andrew Manuele and Andru Galvan.
The Freshmen squad won the Baldwin Park Tournament where Julian Lopez was named tournament MVP as
he scored 34 points in the second half of the championship game. Jordan Ramirez has also been a huge
contributor for the team as he posted 45 points in an early season win
against Diamond Bar.
The Lady Conquerors have also had their share of success in
tournaments this season. The Varsity squad won the Alhambra
tournament by defeating Gabrielino in overtime and finished second to
the Tribune’s #1 ranked team, South Hills, in the Garden Grove Santiago
Tournament. The girls have good wins against Immaculate Heart,
Gabrielino and San Gabriel. Coach Nakamura says they have been
playing great team basketball on both ends of the floor with different
players stepping up to lead the team throughout the first half of the
season. The JV team is also off to a strong 8-4 start and won the Bronze
division of Los Altos Winter Classic.
Girls Water Polo Highlights!
The Lady Conquerors Water Polo team is off
to a 5-2 start to their season. They have big wins early this season against
perennial powers La Serna and Cerritos. The team is led offensively by seniors
Vicotoria Mezack and Kaitlyn Eng and defensively by sophomore Brooke
Contreras. The 2014 CIF Semi-Finalists are looking primed for a Hacienda
League title and a CIF playoff run as they still have 22 games left to play in a 30
day period. The lower levels have only played two games thus far but are
excited to play the remaining games on their schedule.

Soccer Season Highlights!
The Lady Conqueror Soccer Team is currently ranked #7 in the SGV Tribune’s latest ranking with a 5-4
record. The team has battled through various injuries early this season which has allowed many young
players to get experience. The team looks to get healthy and be in top form when league play begins. They
had a solid win over Corona Del Mar in the Sunny Hills Invitational championship game and close losses to
Bonita and top ranked South Hills. Jazzmyn Esquivel has been a defensive standout while Natalia Elizarraras
has been the teams rock in the midfield and is leading the team with 5 goals. They have also received
strong play from rookies Dinah Arredondo in goal and Camryn Verduco on defense.
Conqueror Alum & All-CIF Goalkeeper Justine Padilla begins her first year as head JV coach and has the
team off to a strong start. The led off the season by winning the La Sierra Tournament Championship and
followed that up with a 4th place finish in the Sunny Hills Tournament. Key contributors for the JV team have
been Savannah Bustillos at forward and Wendy Simental in the goal.
After a slow start to their non-league season, the Varsity Boys Soccer team heads into league play looking to
get back on track. The team has performed well and battled to two ties and several close losses. They have
performed well under the leadership of senior Amir Avery and junior Alex Murillo. Sophomore Victor De La
Cruz has led the offense as the teams leading goal scorer. The JV squad has begun the season 4-6-1 and
are led by leading scorer Joseph Fuentes.
Wrestling Highlights!
The Conqueror Wrestling program is making great strides in its second year of reestablishment. The team
has competed well in many dual matches and tournaments while getting prepared for league & CIF. The

thus far. Senior Andrew Perez,138-pounder, has an overall record of13-3 with 6 pins and finished 3rd at
Sierra Vista duals team tournament and 2nd place at the Northview individual tournament. Efrain Baez, 120

Baseball!
Los Altos Baseball got into the holiday spirit by participating in the Pico Rivera Toys for Tots Drive.
Our student-athletes participated in some community service by joining the mayor of Pico Rivera
and the El Rancho High School baseball team to donate over 80 toys for those less fortunate. We
are proud of our boys for seeing the big picture and giving back to those in need. Fall/Winter Sports
