Are you a Member of HEDNA?

PTRHED001 Are you a Member of HEDNA? Here is how HEDNA works and how you can get involved in forwarding the interests of your company and the hospitality industry as a whole. The membership of HEDNA consists of companies who have a stake in the hospitality industry and whose interests are aligned with those of HEDNA. Membership belongs to the company, so any employee of a member company can be active in the organization. There are 4 categories of membership. Principal members are hoteliers or companies that represent hotels in the distribution channels. The wide variety of principal members and their business models ensure that all properties, whether branded and flagged by a big chain or independent and working with a representative, can be assured that their interests are addressed. Allied members are Companies or individuals who provide products or services to Principal Members, including GDSs, Internet distributors, technology providers, travel agencies and other intermediaries. In order to guide change, we need to ensure all stakeholders are included in the discussion and planning. This includes our vendors who build, run and manage our systems, as well as our intermediaries who ensure our rooms get marketed and sold. Consultant members Individuals who provide consulting services to the hotel electronic distribution industry. Consultants play a key role in helping our industry with research and project work. Finally, Fellowship members include universities and hotel schools as well as those who actively promote travel and tourism on a not-‐for-‐profit basis. This will serve to pass on our passion to up and coming hoteliers and foster support by organizations who can promote positive changes to the industry. Forums have replaced the committees of the early HEDNA years. A significant amount of the work HEDNA does comes out of the Forums. Each forum identifies key issues within areas of focus and working groups are formed to work on specific projects. The forums meet during the Spring and Winter conferences. 1 © 2014 HEDNA. 2014 eCornell. All rights reserved. PTRHED001 While working groups work together year-‐round on their projects and deliver reports to the forums and the membership at the conferences. The Payment Technologies Forum addresses payment related issues that exist in the industry. It works towards implementation of standards in close cooperation with distribution channels, banks, card schemes and payment technology providers, as well as trying to influence promotion and adoption of approved standards and educating the membership on established guidelines. Current projects include: Resources for the membership regarding processing of no-‐show payments. Documents already posted on the HEDNA website include a reference guides from credit card companies (including contact information) about processing a payment without the CVV. Another project is related to the increased use of Virtual credit cards (VCC) as a form of payment. They are working to develop a hotel industry standard handbook that details VCC context, operations, and best practices. Research and best practices for the growth in consumer pre-‐payment and the move toward putting the customer at the center of any payment strategy Education regarding non-‐card based, locally preferred payment options. The Leisure Wholesale Forum seeks to identify connectivity solutions for Tour Operators, Wholesalers, and Hotel Companies. The group is working to identify and develop connections, as well as prioritize additional areas of opportunity for Hotels and Tour Operators and determine how to tackle the challenges surrounding this key market segment. As a result of a survey taken of wholesale and FIT companies to better understand the current state of this segment and to identify future trends and key challenges of moving from offline to online, this forum has identified a need for major efforts in standardization to ensure a continued smooth transition. The committee is working to determine priorities and processes in moving forward the automation of this segment. The Connectivity Working Group aims to define a framework for the efficient exchange of increasing complexity of shopping transactions while maintaining a high level of accuracy for the consumer. This group has been extremely active and can boast 2 major achievements 2 © 2014 HEDNA. 2014 eCornell. All rights reserved. HEDNA White Paper: The Future of Shopping HEDNA White Paper: Change Discovery Service These white papers are available on the HEDNA website to all members. The work done by this group continues in collaboration with the OTA and HTNG associations who establish standard technical protocols for the entire travel industry. The ASPAC Group focuses on our members doing business in the ASPAC region. The first goal is to increase HEDNA’s general reach and presence throughout the region. The second goal is to develop region-‐specific events and cooperation. Obviously ASPAC is a huge region that will have multiple, and sometimes contrasting interests. What is an issue in China may not be in Australia or India. So the regional approach is necessary for HEDNA to grow in ASPAC. Meeting with counterparts, vendors, suppliers and intermediaries, staying in touch, working on committees and building a stronger, more profitable industry in today's electronic world requires the full range of networking and connections! Conferences feature: Forums and working groups meetings GDS meetings and updates Featured speakers on all issues related to distribution and technology advances in the industry Networking opportunities In addition to the HEDNA sponsored events, there are a variety of other industry trade shows and events where HEDNA participates. This is a list of some of the most important ones which take place in all areas of the world.
