A Moment with the Pastor
Arlinda and I want to take this opportunity to say
thank you for all the Christmas cards and gifts from our
church family. Each one of you is such a blessing to us. In a
three month period you have celebrated my 25 year
anniversary as Pastor of FBC, my presidency of the Alabama
Baptist State Convention and now another glorious Christmas together. Only
heaven can be better than this. As Pastor and wife, we cannot feel more loved
by you than right now. Arlinda and I pray God’s richest blessings on you this
Christmas season. We pray for God’s mercies for those traveling. We pray for
comfort to those celebrating their first Christmas without a loved one. We pray
for peace in family crisis. We pray for hope for those who see no hope at the
moment. We pray for joy and love that Jesus brought that first Christmas to be
experienced by all.
On Sunday, December 21, we’ll have our usual two Sunday Schools and
two worship services. Then on Sunday, December 28, we’ll have one service at
10:00 a.m. and encourage everyone to come dressed in Christmas casual. Don’t
forget that on Christmas Eve we’ll have two identical services at 4:30 & 6:00
p.m.. Again dress is Christmas casual.
Arlinda and I wish you a Merry Christmas!
Travis
On the fourth Sunday of
Advent, we light the
“Angel’s Candle”. This
candle reminds us of the
heavenly hosts that
proclaimed Christ’s
arrival with “Behold, I
bring unto you a good
tiding of great joy!”

2014 Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions
National Goal: $175 million
FBC Goal: $100 thousand
Received to date: $67,897.38
How much should I give?
The Lottie Moon Christmas Offering goal for this year is $175 million and our FBC goal is $100,000. This goal is
based on real needs as we Southern Baptists work together to reach the remaining people for Christ. When the
Lord calls us to give, He knows how much we are able to give – and what He wants is a gift given from a joyful
heart. If you need help deciding how much to give, consider basing your goal on how much it takes to support a
single missionary. On average, it costs about $50,800 a year, which equals $977 a week and $139 a day to
support a missionary. Support includes housing, salary, children’s education, medical expenses, retirement and
other expenses.
Financial Peace University
We are planning on offering a Financial Peace University class beginning in late January. This class would meet on
Sunday evenings at 4:30 p.m. and would include nine weeks of instruction following an introductory meeting on
January 11. The cost for the course is $90 per couple. If you have been through FPU previously and have the
materials, there is no charge. We also can offer a limited number of scholarships. To proceed with the class, we
need a minimum of five couples. If you are interested, contact our FPU Facilitator, Robbie Gray, or me and let us
know.

Johnny Hunt Men’s Conference
Simulcast!
On January 30-31, we will host the
simulcast of the men’s conference
live from FBC Woodstock, GA. We
will meet in our chapel for the
Friday night/Saturday morning
sessions. This will be a FREE event
for our men this year-no travel, no hotel room, no time
change and no sleep deprivation. We’ll ask men to
bring “guy food” for our fellowship times. More details
to come. If you plan to attend, call me or send me an
e-mail at [email protected].
YEAR END GIVING
Thanks you for your support of the ministry of First Baptist
Church. We have two more Sundays to give to our church
this calendar year. Remember, in order to get proper credit
for your 2014 contributions, all gifts have to be received at
the Church or postmarked by December 31.
We have recently received several
phone calls requesting after-school
tutoring for elementary-age
students. If this is an area where you
could be of service, please contact
John Johnston for details.
