A NOTE FROM MS. RIECHMANN
Following the tradition when beginning a New Year,
we offer to you our 2015 New Year’s resolutions.
Here at SES:
• We resolve to continue to make our students’
well-being a priority.
• We resolve through our instruction to provide
our students opportunity for growth.
• We resolve to nurture and find excitement in
our students’ successes.
• We resolve to strive for open lines of
communication with our students and parents.
We make these resolutions with a determination to
persevere and with your students have a powerful
second half of the school year, equipping them with

Please ensure school has a current working
phone number and/or alternate phone numbers
to contact for student illnesses and emergencies.
Send in an extra set of clothes for all students in
case of spills, puddles, and other accidents.
Cough drops are kept in the nurse’s office and

There was no Box Tops winner this month. Since it was a short month we did not count Box Tops but
we will have a Box Tops cutting on Thursday, January 29th at the Lincoln’s Landing Community Center
at 9 a.m. Hope to see you there!
Congratulations to Ms. Foster’s class and Ms. Hund’s class for being our spirit day winners. Way to
show your school spirit!
The Holiday Shop was held December 3-5. It was fantastic! The students had such a wonderful time
selecting gifts for their loved ones. Thank you to all of our volunteers for helping to make this event
so memorable for our students. We couldn’t have done it without you. We would also like to thank
Shakerra Curry and Melissa Romo-Charlie for doing such a phenomenal job chairing this event.
Needing a break from the kitchen? Please come out and support our school fundraiser at Chick-fil-A
near SWIC on Saturday, January 24th on Rt. 161! Wear your SES purple pride colors and mention SES
when visiting the restaurant. (The Eckert’s fundraiser that was scheduled for January 21st has been
canceled so we can support the school in the Chick-fil-A School Spirit Challenge.) Hope to see you at
Chick-fil-A!
Parents, there is the potential for a complete turnover of the PTO board at the end of this year. We
would love for anyone interested in being on next year’s board to start learning the ropes. Please

Ready, Set, Pretend!
School Closings or Delayed Start
Tis the season……..
School closings will be announced as Mascoutah
School District 19. This will include Scott Elementary,
Mascoutah Middle School, Mascoutah High School,
and Mascoutah Elementary School.
If school is canceled due to bad weather you will
receive a call from the School Messenger. You can
also check the school website, TV, and radio stations.
If Mascoutah School District announces a delayed
start, you will receive this information in the same
manner. All schedules will be moved back 2 hours for
buses and school start times. Dismissal times will
remain the same. There will be no PreK in session on
a delayed start day. We are unable to serve breakfast
on last start days.
Please Note – Scott AFB and Mascoutah School
District are separate entities and may not be running
on the same schedule.
No matter how old your youngster is,
pretending can boost and teach them to think
abstractly. Try these activities:
Ask your child to close their eyes and
imagine they are a person they have studied
(explorer, inventor) or that they are visiting a
place they have learned about (White House,
rain forest). Encourage them to describe
what they see, hear and smell. In the rain
forest, for example, they might see colorful
birds, hear monkeys howling, or smell damp
leaves.
Pick a random object (sponge). Have
each family member list creative uses for it
(pin cushion, hamster tumbling mat, ice
pack). After three minutes, compare your
lists. The one with the most ideas gets to
pick the next item.
Pretending is not only fun, but builds
your child’s creativity and communication
when sharing.
