With a student body of over 555 diploma, degree and post-graduate music students, we are also the biggest. Year in and year out the UiTM Faculty of Music has dedicated itself to training and nurturing the future generations of Malaysia’s music industry. As a conclusion to this landmark year the UiTM Faculty of Music in collaboration with our faculty alumni association (Persatuan Alumni Fakulti Muzik UiTM) will present a 30th Anniversary Celebration Concert at the Dewan Fihlarmonik Petronas, KLCC on December 21st, 2014. The concert will showcase performances which are educational outcomes of studies at the UiTM Faculty of Music. Performances will vary from solo to orchestra settings playing music from the various styles of Malaysian traditional, Classical Western, Jazz, and Crossover performed by UiTM Faculty of Music alumni, faculty members, students, and friends. The concert will highlight the UiTM choir as well as original works and arrangements by Composition students, UiTM Faculty of Music faculty members, and alumni. ! Dato’ Dr. Ng Kah Ming, Visiting Professor in conducting,harpsichord and early music. Dato’ Dr. Ng Kah Ming, founder member of the Baroque ensemble Charivari Agreable, will be at the Faculty of Music as Visiting Professor in December. During this time he will be working with faculty members and students from all programmes. ! Dato Dr. Ng Kah Ming is a winner of the Guildhall School’s Early Music Competition and a Fellow (in Harpsichord) of the Trinity College of Music London. He has accompanied the recitals and concerts of pioneering artists of the historically-informed movement, including Emma Kirkby, James Bowman, Catherine Bott, John Holloway, and Simon Standage. Kah-Ming has contributed reviews and articles to leading specialist music journals; he wrote the entries on English and French baroque ornamentation in the revised New Grove Dictionary of Music & Musicians. ! In between his performing and directing, he squeezes in some adjudicating (of competitions and examinations) and lecturing, including a short spell as Course Co-ordinator & Lecturer in Early Music Studies at the Faculty of Music, Oxford University. As the director of the award-winning Charivari Agreable and its work with over sixty choirs in the UK, Kah-Ming was invited in 2008 to address the annual convention of the Association of British Choral Directors, his co-presenters being some of the biggest names in the choral scene, such as Sir David Wilcocks, John Rutter, Bob Chilcott, Nicholas Cleobury, Andrew Parrott, and Eric Whitacre. ! UiTM Faculty of Music is pleased to cooperate with the Embassy of Italy to present Women in Music, a piano recital by Orietta Caianiello. Maestro Caianiello will perform works by Marianne von Martinez, Josepha von Auernhammer, Cecile Chaminade, Maria Teresa D’Agnesi and Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel. ! Orietta Caianello was born in Naples, where she graduated in Piano Performance at the Conservatorio “San Pietro a Majella” under Aldo Tramma. She perfected her chamber music studies in Germany under Werner Genuit and soloism in London under Peter Feuchtwanger. She also took lessons from Bernhard Wambach, Massimiliano Damerini and Marina Horak. She attended the Ferienkurse in Darmstadt and the Academy Tibor Varga in Sion and is now following a three-year Master course in Phenomenology of Music under the French pianist Elisabeth Sombart, in Rome. She holds a vast concert experience as a soloist and chamber music player, and has performed in several groups, duo with cello, flute, viola, in piano trio (Trio Busoni, with which she premiered the Trio op. 18 by Busoni in London). She has been the pianist of the contemporary ensemble Freon in Rome for several years, working with many composers, and then explored the rare repertoire of melologue with a famous Italian actress. Finally, she funded the Ianus Piano Duo, a two pianos, with the late Antonio Sardi de Letto (d. 2011), with whom she has successfully worked for over 10 years. She has performed in major cities in Italy, England, Austria, France, Germany, Brazil, the United States, Canada and India. She has recorded two CDs in piano duo, the Visions de l’Amen by O. Messiaen (for the Terre Sommerse label) and Schumannesque (Rai Trade label) and a third one on the French Groupe des Six, to be released posthumously. Three other chamber recordings with the Freon Ensemble are published by Stradivarius and Rai Trade; she is now working at two new solo CDs. She is professor of Chamber music at the Conservatorio “N. Piccinni” in Bari, Italy, at the School of Testaccio in Rome, and cooperates in a course on Music Interpretation at the Università degli Studi di Roma Tre. She has taken part twice at the “Concerti di Radio Tre” at the Quirinale Palace. !
