CIMP CELEBRATES GOOD GOVERNANCE DAY Good Governance Day is to create awareness among the youth about the need of good governance in our country. 25th of December marks the birth anniversary of our former Prime Minister and a great leader Mr. Atal Bihari Vajpayee and the day is celebrated as National Good Governance Day. To promote the idea of good governance among the students, Chandragupt Institute of Management Patna organized a debate competition on the topic “Role of Innovation and Technology in promoting Good Governance” on December 23rd 2014. Each participant was allotted ten minutes time to express their innovative ideas and thoughts. There was great enthusiasm and exuberance among the students to be a part of this event. The event had a total of 17 participants comprising of both the junior and senior batch. The competition was judged by four distinguished faculties from the institute namely, Prof G.K. Murthy, Prof. Anuj Sharma, Prof Uma Nair and Prof Jyoti Verma. The entire event was co-ordinated by PGP Chairperson of the institute Prof Rajeev Verma. The participants in general talked about Good Governance, which is the process of decision making and implementation. They highlighted the fact that the basic challenge in today’s scenario is the implementation of those decisions and ideas. This requires that the government should not only focus on the formulation of policies and ideas but attention must also be given towards their implementation. The participants described that good governance is all about creating transparency, responsiveness, effectiveness and being efficient. These make the foundation of good governance. The participants stressed upon the need of technology usage to smoothen the functioning of system and creating transparency in the system. Some of the participants pointed out the use of big data to encounter and address the problem of corruption. Data mining was proposed as a solution in this regard. It was the belief of the participants that the world is advancing at a greater pace and internet has played a pivotal role to achieve this. But as compared to other developed countries India has been lacking in the usage of internet and the reach is even worse for the rural section of the society which comprises a big chunk of Indian population. This stands out as one of the biggest hurdles that need to be encountered. The other issue that was raised by the students was the lack of education and high level of corruption. These issues are pulling back our country from development. The participants highlighted and appreciated the transformation that the government is adopting in terms of technology and innovation to improve its functioning. Some of the examples that were cited by them included Aadhar card, Jan Dhan Yojana, ekiosk and Kisan Seva, computerization of Revenue Department, Swagat Program in Gujarat and Karnataka Bhoomi project. e-Tax system etc. One important solution proposed in the debate was the involvement of educated and elite class in good governance. The educated class should take up the responsibility of bridging the gap between the government and the poor sections of the society. The debate facilitated the generation of different ideas by various participants and was successful in attaining its motive and objective. This competition provided a good platform to the students of CIMP to have a better understanding and insight about “Good Governance”.
