GREETING The boundless grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the wisdom of God, and the light of the Holy Spirit be with you all. And also with you. WORD OLD TESTAMENT READING The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. ANTHEM Isaiah 43:1-7 pew Bible, p. 631 David Hurd; arr. Robert A.M. Ross Now in the Name of God The Overbrook Choir Now in the name of God, who sent salvation’s word and sacrament, Through John’s baptizing waters’ way, for grace and strength and light we pray. Our names are writ in holy hand; God leads us to the promised land. We rise in wonder from the flood, and love becomes out livelihood. With Noah, through disaster borne, with Moses, from the water drawn, With Jonah, from the sea released, we celebrate this rising feast. The water is a seal and sign of costly love that makes us clean. This love we see in Christ portrayed, who rose triumphant from the dead. We sing our thanks that old and young so to the church of Christ belong. This is the covenant of grace: we look salvation in the face. TIME WITH CHILDREN The Rev. Michelle Denney Grunseich Following the Time with Children, children Pre-K through Grade 1 may depart to Sunday School. An African-American spiritual, Glory to God suggests this hymn “sums up the commitment of a candidate for baptism: the request for the rite, an expression of motivation, and a succinct affirmation of faith. The widening melodic lines build anticipation and give weight to the final phrase of each stanza.” Note the rhythmic alteration appropriate to the hymn’s tune, TAKE ME TO THE WATER.
