East of England Fabrication Directory 2014 East of England Fabrication Directory 2014 The East of England is unique in the country as it includes energy producers across a diverse range including nuclear, gas and renewables and is key to UK PLC in terms of keeping the nations power turned on. Our vibrant supply chain includes a number of fabricators many of whom have specialist skills, equipment and resources built over the last 50 years of the regions energy history. The East of England Energy Group (EEEGR) is a trade organisation with some 400 members and is active in finding opportunities for its members, organising events, working with government at local, regional and national level and engaging with industry to ensure we have the requisite skills and training to ensure the growth of the sector into the future. During the course of 2013 EEEGR worked with DECC to identify the fabricators in the East of England and in this first edition of this fabricators guide we believe we have showcased some of the capabilities and resources that are available in our region. Often thought of as an area of agriculture and tourism readers might be surprised at the breadth and depth of capabilities we have in the East of England indeed the area has recently been identified by colleagues in the renewables sector with the recognition of CORE (Centres of Offshore Renewable Engineering) status one of just six such areas in the country. Many of our fabricators have access to the North Sea through our ports with excellent quayside facilities as well as some of the world’s leading technology, research and development (R&D) and engineering excellence. In short our region has the land, infrastructure, skills and supply chain expertise required to take advantage of the world’s largest energy engineering and fabrication requirements. Long known for its position as one of the UK’s leading freight and passenger ports, Harwich International Port offers more than 28 weekly ro-ro connections to The Netherlands and Denmark, as well as being one of the country’s leading cruise ports. The port also has wide experience of both dry and liquid bulks, project cargo and warehousing. Building on the strength of these more traditional sectors, the port has now firmly established itself within the energy market. Harwich International Port has been at the forefront of UK offshore wind development, having acted as the primary installation base for Gunfleet Sands, Greater Gabbard and London Array, and in the process having handled more turbines than any other UK East Coast port. Foundation, turbine and cable transfer operations have all been carried out at Harwich, with a potentially dedicated storage site of 60 acres immediately adjacent to the quay, available for these tasks. 2013 saw the first exports of biomass products, while the port has ambitious plans for further expansion into the offshore oil and gas industry, as well as exploring opportunities in the field of decommissioning.
