MARK YOUR CALENDARS FOR THE FOLLOWING COLLECTIONS IN 2014 All collections are provided by the Benzie County 24/7 Residential Recycling Program th After Holiday Recycling Collection Saturday, December 28 2013 @ Benzie County Government Center lower level parking lot (maintenance garage) from 9 am until 1 pm. No appointment necessary. No charge. Items accepted: electronics, household batteries, fluorescent bulbs and packaging Styrofoam. Styrofoam must be clean and bagged, boxed or bundled. No packing peanuts or insulation accepted. Christmas Tree Recycling throughout the month of January 2014. Undecorated Christmas trees may be dropped off at Smitty’s Tree Service location, 2741 Benzie Hwy, Benzonia (across from Timberline Shell). Follow the signs to drop area at this property. No appointment. No charge. Earth Day Electronics Collection Electronic equipment will be collected and recycled on Saturday, April 19th, 2014 from 10 am until 1 pm at Betsie Valley Elementary School on M115 in Thompsonville. No appointment necessary. No charge. Clean Out Your Files (paper shredding event) Free shredding of confidential documents to celebrate Earth Day on Tuesday, April 22nd, 2014 at the lower level of the Benzie Resource Center on M-115 from 10 am – noon (Building located west of Crystal Lake Clinic on Frankfort Highway) No charge and no appointment necessary. Quantities limited to 3 boxes or bags. Two Collections for Household Hazardous Waste including oil base paints, fluorescent bulbs, household batteries, expired medicines and medical waste, pesticides, chemicals and electronic equipment (televisions, computers, misc. electronics) are scheduled for Saturday, June 7th, 2014 at 404 Parkview Lane, Incoe building parking lot in Frankfort and Saturday, August 9th, 2014 at the Road Commission parking lot in Honor. Collection times are 9 am till noon. No charge to Benzie County residents for any hazardous waste or electronic equipment. Appointments are required for these two collections. Where are the Styrofoam Collections listed? Clean polystyrene packaging and formed Styrofoam will usually have a recycling logo with a #6 inside it. Our Single Stream Recycling Program allows this type of item in a recycling bin. Break down larger pieces of packaging Styrofoam so it fits in a recycling bin window. We don’t accept insulation board, packing peanuts, or dirty Styrofoam. Call 882-0554 if you have special needs to be addressed with Styrofoam recycling.
