Bachelor/Master Thesis - Performance Evaluation of Time Synchronization in a potential
Ethernet based In-vehicle Network

the various divisions.
Context:
Advanced technologies like Advanced Driver Assistance Systems in today’s and for future vehicles lead to high Time
Quality of Services demands such as Time Synchronization. In this context, Ethernet (AVB and TSN) has been
introduced as a great candidate to provide efficient Time Synchronization QoS for those Applications. The purpose of
the thesis is to: evaluate Ethernet PTP Performance (Network Setup, Synchronization Availability, and Accuracy),
define automotive PTP optimal Templates, find Synchronization Mechanisms for Automotive Bus Systems, evaluate
and analyze Synchronization Performance based on above defined Mechanisms.
Your Tasks:
During the thesis, You will be involved in high level technologic projects related to new Automotive Concepts. Your
tasks will be focused on:
 Requirement Analysis of future Automotive Systems (e. g.: Adaptive Cruise Control, Brake Assist,
Autonomous Driving, Event Data Recording . . .) in terms of Synchronization Precision, Rapidity and
Availability
 Examination and Simulation of several Time Synchronization Concepts based on different Communication
Systems
 Comparative Performance Evaluation (Simulation based) of Ethernet (AVB and TSN) and other
Automotive Communication Systems
Your profile:
 You study Electronics, Electrical Engineering , Communications Technology, Technical Computer Science
or similar Study field
 You like getting in touch with automotive technical topics
 You have good C/C++ programming knowledge and ideally good knowledge of OMNET++
 Good knowledge of Communication Systems such as CAN, FlexRay, Ethernet etc … is desired

