Parenting a Freshman: Mind, Body, and Soul
Time: 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM

Presented by Kathy Schnurr, University Chaplain, this session will provide information about
how to support your freshman’s transition into college. The panel will discuss developmental
concerns faced by the new students and their parents, loneliness/homesickness and other
transition related concerns, religious and spiritual opportunities, and the importance of
wellness and wholeness for a successful academic career.
Parents Security Information Session

Parents will have the opportunity to watch a presentation about security here at Johns
Hopkins and have their questions regarding security answered.
Homewood Museum Tours
Time: 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM
Location: Homewood Museum, Freshman Quad
Homewood Museum offers a look at life in early 19th-century Baltimore. A National Historic
Landmark built in 1801, Homewood is renowned for its elegant proportions, extravagant
details, and superb collection of American decorative art. Free guided tours are provided for
Johns Hopkins students and families. Tours start every half hour.

Led by the Directors of Student Activities, this session provides insight regarding how
students can make the most of their undergraduate years at Johns Hopkins. With over 250
student-led groups on campus, there are opportunities that should not be missed.
Pre-med Planning for Your Student
Time: 12:00 PM – 12:45 PM
Location: Hodson 311
What are important planning considerations in pursuing different career paths including
healthcare? What are some planning timelines? How might an internship, research, study
abroad or volunteer experience impact your student’s career preparation? How can you as a
parent best support your student? Dr. David Verrier, Director of Pre-Professional Programs
and Advising, will offer insight into what you can do to support your child’s medical goals.

Parents can meet one another and learn more about the support for students from populations
that are often underrepresented in higher education as well as meet the staff from the Office
of Multicultural Affairs.

Presented by Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Student Life, Terry Martinez, this session
will provide information about all non-academic student support services including
residential life, counselling, health services, LGBTQ life, and leadership programs. In
addition, Dean Martinez will discuss ways in which the Office of the Dean of Student Life
works with the parents of Hopkins students.

School of Arts & Sciences, this session will provide parents with an overview of academics at
Hopkins and help them to understand the skills that students will need to be academically
successful. Join us to explore resources and strategies for helping your student to positively
adjust to college academics.

Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Brent Mosser, Director of Student Disabilities Services, will
