Oakville OMFC Fliteline 2 Minutes of October Meeting The OMFC November meeting was called to order by President Terry Sears at 7:30pm on Monday, November 3rd, with thirty-six members present. This level of attendance constitutes a quorum for the club’s Annual General Meeting. Denis Loo reported on the recent MAAC AZM. He stated that it was a fairly uneventful session, with the main point of the meeting being the election of a new Deputy Zone Director. Brian Anderson, our CFI, then rose to present Wings Certificates to this year’s graduates. Congratulations Arum Ghose Kevin Graca Jurie Jigalov Ted Mruck. possible to work with Claire Murray here, as he already sets up some indoor flying dates in the GTA. The issue of a second field was brought up, and Terry responded that while we are still in talks with Milton regarding possible future sites, there is nothing being done at this time to get a second field prepared. Usage of the North Field by the combined “North” and “South” Field flyers did not cause any congestion or line-ups as was originally feared. Building a new field from scratch would be very expensive, and would more than likely be north of the 401. Terry stated that while the Executive is continuing its field search, the actual building of the field is not a top priority. The next item on the agenda was the 2015 Executive election (selection?). The slate of Officers as put forward by the Selection Committee was as follows: President: Vice-President: Secretary-Treasurer North Field Manager Membership Director Fliteline Editor Jurie, Brian and Ted Brian also had a special thanks to this year’s team of instructors, who, despite the unfavorable weather conditions this summer, made themselves available every Tuesday and Thursday evening for the flight school. Following the Wings Presentation, there was a brief discussion about possible indoor flying this winter, and whether the club was interested in formally pursuing an indoor schedule. If anyone is interested in in being the indoor flight co-ordinator, they should contact Terry Sears or Denis Loo. It may be Denis Loo Rasheed Juman Jim Eichenberg Bill Funnell (open) Andy Sulkowski As there were no further nominations, the slate was elected as stands; moved by Terry Sears and seconded by Mike McDermott. The position of Membership/Social Director was not filled at the time of the meeting—anyone wishing to serve in that capacity is urged to contact Terry Sears or Denis Loo. The Appointed members of the 2015 Executive (CFI, Webmaster and Field Acquisition Manager) will be named by the incoming Executive once they take office December 1st. Following the election of officers, we broke for coffee and the usual raffle draw. OMFC Fliteline Brian Anderson rose and stated that while he was know to be a flyer of ARF models, he has recently become a scratch-builder! As proof, he showed us a self-designed and built biplane, that he presented to Terry in appreciation for Terry’s tenure as Club president (below). 3 in Solartex and Klass Kote epoxy paint. The cowl and wheelpants are fibreglass/epoxy fabricated over molds with the help of Gerard Baron. The Knight Twister comes in at about 12 lbs and the currently planned power is a Laser .90 four-stroke. That may change, however, as the glow plug on the Laser is in an very inconvenient position at the front of the cylinder. Terry then turned the meeting over to Denis, our president elect for 2015. Denis introduced himself and gave a brief summary of his background and time in the hobby. There were two models on display at the meeting. One was the now almost completed Imperial Knight Twister by Mike McDermott. Mike explained that the model was totally scratch built—even the plans were made from three-views. The model is covered Next up was Mike Auger, and his Twisted Hobbys Crack Yak-55 indoor 3D model. The Yak is an Indoor ARF, made of 9mm depron foam and having a wingspan of 32 inches. The wing itself is flat; lift is provided by the flight angle. I ran across an interesting article in one of the papers the other day (The Star, I think) about a place that features indoor skydiving! Now that got my attention, for sure— then I find out that the place is in Oakville! I didn’t remember seeing any huge towers being built in town, so I had a look at the company’s web site. Seems the firm is international, and the Toronto area (that’s us) is just one of many locations. Also turns out that you don’t actually fall down, you sort of float up, and that gives the feeling of falling downward. As I understand it, it’s a vertical wind tunnel concept; there are fans in the floor that are powerful enough to lift you into the air, and you manoeuver the same as you would if you were falling in free flight. Anyhow, the cost is actually fairly reasonable — take a look at their web site (and no, I don’t work for them ) www.iflytoronto.com OMFC Fliteline 6 OMFC 2014 Executive President: Vice-President: Past President: Chief Flying Instructor: Field Acquisition Mgr.: Terry Sears Denis Loo John Pretty North Field Manager: Membership Director: Bill Funnell Guch Gujral Brian Anderson Mike McDermott Fliteline Editor: Webmaster: Andy Sulkowski Bert Armstrong [email protected] [email protected] Secretary/Treasurer: Jim Eichenberg 1316 Gainsborough Drive Oakville, Ontario L6H 2H5 Telephone: 905-255-3063 [email protected] OMFC Meeting Dates for 2014/15 Date Agenda Monday, December 1st TBA Monday, January 5th Monday, February 2nd Monday, March 2nd Monday, April 6th Monday, May 4th Annual Beauty Contest OMFC Event Dates for 2015 Date Event Event Sponsor January 1st February 8th May 23rd (approx) June 6th June 21st July 25th/26th Aug 15th Frozen Finger Fly Swap Meet Milton Street Show Electric Fun Fly Annual Air Show Pattern Contest Family Fun Fly Jim Eichenberg Rasheed Juman Bill Funnell Denis Loo OMFC Executive Jim Eichenberg Terry Sears
