a congratulatory cable
marking his victory in
the presidential election.
President Al Sisi
commended
the
King’s noble gesture
in attending his inauguration ceremony and
praised his support for
Egypt.
He welcomed the
invitation of Custodian of the Two Holy
Mosques to hold a donor conference to support Egypt.
He
highlighted
resolve to activate
relations with Arab
countries at the level
of joint Arab action to
face challenges that
threaten safety and
unity of the countries.
He expressed delight
in accepting the King’s
invitation to visit Bahrain that represents a
new start in relations.
n His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa yesterday paid a surprise visit to the Muharraq Suq, where
he was informed about citizens’ needs regarding commercial services and facilities required to restore the iconic market’s vitality and
pioneering role.
n Leadership praised
HIS Majesty King Hamad yesterday received a cable of thanks from
parliament chairman Dr Khalifa Al Dhahrani on the adjournment
of the fourth session of the third legislative term of parliament
and Shura Council. He commended the King’s directives and
pledged loyalty to the leadership and homeland. The King received
a similar cable from Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh.
His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al
Khalifa received cables of thanks from Dr Al Dhahrani and Mr Al
Saleh. They paid tribute to the Premier for supporting the National
Assembly, hailing the government’s constructive co-operation with
the legislative branch.

DEPUTY Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa
yesterday received Gulf Air’s acting chief executive Maher Al
Musallem who outlined strategies to achieve profitability, overcome losses, slash debts and strengthen competitiveness.
n Bahrain has been the target of many plots against it, but emerged stronger from each one, the Prime Minister said yesterday. The kingdom’s co-existence will remain a role model, and attempts to change it will never succeed, he said as he

INTERIOR Minister Lieutenant-General Shaikh Rashid
bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday received Royal Charity
Organisation (RCO) secretary-general Dr Mustafa Al Sayed
who outlined charity projects, including the Bahrain Centre
for Vocational Rehabilitation and Training. The minister met
a group of children supported by RCO who visited ministry
departments.

THE Interior Minister yesterday received Gulf Centre for Strategic
Studies chairman Dr Omar Al Hassan and commended the think
tank for highlighting national and regional issues.
n Anti-narcotics conference opens
THE Interior Minister yesterday deputised Public Security
chief Major-General Tariq Al Hassan to open the first antinarcotics conference. The three-day event is being held at Shaikh
Abdulaziz Hall, Bahrain University, under the theme ‘Drugs and
Security Challenges – International Control of Precursors and
Essential Chemicals’. The Anti-Narcotics Directorate is holding
the conference in co-operation with the United Nations Office on
Drugs and Crime.
n Deputy Premier Shaikh Mohammed bin Mubarak Al Khalifa
yesterday received Shura Council chairman Ali Saleh Al Saleh
and discussed key issues on the agenda of the fourth session
of the third legislative term.
Health milestone in spotlight
HEALTH Minister Sadiq Al Shehabi received a World Health Organisation (WHO) delegation and discussed Bahrain’s success in achieving
“zero iodine deficiency” status, becoming the first country in the eastern
Mediterranean region and the Middle East to be free of iodine deficiency
disorders.
The team included regional adviser on nutrition in WHO’s eastern
Mediterranean office Dr Ayoub Al Jawaldeh and regional co-ordinator for
the International Council for the Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders
Professor Ezzaldine Hussein. The Health Ministry’s nutrition department head Dr Nadia Ghareeb was present.
BAHRAIN has drawn up plans
to ensure labour market stability in the medium and long-term.
Labour Minister and Supreme Council for Vocational
Training chairman Jameel Humaidan said part of the plans
pertains to vocational guidance for young job-seekers to
assist them in choosing their
professional future and ensure
it matches their creativity and
potential.
The minister was speaking
as he patronised the first Youth
Forum organised by the General Federation of Bahrain Trade
Unions, in the presence of representatives from the Bahrain
Chamber of Commerce and
Industry, universities, training
institutions and trade unions.
He said many graduates take
up jobs that differ from their
academic specialities, which is a
waste of energy and budget.
He said success of the guidance programmes will boost
youngsters’ awareness of professional reality and promote
development of establishments
by attracting youngsters with
creativity and potential.
The minister said the National Workforce Observatory
project to be launched by the
ministry will represent a key
database for the labour market
through which decision makers
can study market indices and
link them to educational and
training output.
n Co-operation with legislature ‘vital’
FOREIGN Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa
yesterday met the Shura Council’s foreign, defence and national
security affairs committee headed by Dr Shaikh Ali bin Abdulla Al
Khalifa. They discussed co-ordination and co-operation between the
legislative and executive authorities.
n US ties in focus at talks
MINISTER of State for Defence Affairs Lieutenant-General Dr
Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa yesterday received
US Ambassador Thomas Krajeski and discussed relations.
n Health insurance forum set
THE Minister of State for Defence Affairs yesterday received
members of the High Organising Committee of the Bahrain Health
Insurance Exhibition and Forum, to be held in November. He
underlined the importance of the forum in promoting awareness
among citizens and residents about health insurance.
n Bahrain to host homes expo
BAHRAIN will host the Modern House Exhibition 2014 at the
Bahrain International Exhibition and Convention Centre from
July 10-12. Capital Governor Shaikh Hisham bin Abdulrahman
Al Khalifa will patronise the event, organised by First Target
company.
n Tribute to sportsman and artist
SUPREME Council for Youth and Sport chairman and Bahrain
Olympic Committee president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al
Khalifa yesterday paid tribute to the late sportsman and artist Isaac
Khonji. He said Bahrain has lost a man known for his loyalty to the
leadership and dedication to serve the sports community. Shaikh
Nasser sent a cable of condolences to the bereaved family.
n Book on personalities presented
HIS Majesty’s adviser for media affairs Nabeel Al Hamer
yesterday received Isa Cultural Centre National Library
director Dr Mansour Sarhan who presented a book highlighting
leading Bahrain literary, social, political and religious figures.

Outstanding BDF officers honoured
A SIXTH batch of BDF officers graduated yesterday after
completing a joint command
and staff course.
The Royal Command and
Staff College hosted the graduation ceremony under the
patronage of His Majesty King
Hamad who delegated BDF
Commander-in-Chief Marshal
Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al
Khalifa to attend.
The
BDF
Commander-in-Chief presented the
graduates with certificates and
honoured outstanding officers
with gifts.
He said the course will boost
graduates’ decision-making
capabilities and ability to assume responsibilities to face
global challenges.
He stressed the need for
GCC countries to join ranks
and unify stances to maintain
regional security and stability
and establish good neighbourly relations based on mutual
respect and non-interference in
internal affairs.
