Dear Loveland Classical Parents,
My name is Kenny Overby, and I am the owner of ATA Family Martial Arts of Fort
Collins, Loveland, Louisville, Aurora, and Summit County, Colorado. Over the past 10 years,
our company has been offering un-paralleled martial arts classes throughout Colorado.
Starting in early November, we will be offering an enrichment class at Loveland Classical
Schools, and I wanted to inform you of our goals, and curriculum as Self Defense and Child
Safety are important topics that I feel every parent should have the right to talk with their
child about before an outside source does!
Our classes will offer students an introduction to martial arts. Basic blocks, strikes,
and kicks will be taught alongside basic “break away” self-defense techniques. Your child will
be repeatedly reminded that they are not to use their taekwondo on their friends, family, or
the dog! Each lesson will include a discussion on a life skill such as confidence, discipline, and
respect. Your child will be sent home with a paper to complete that re-iterates the
importance of “Black Belt Excellence” in all aspects of their life.
During the self-defense portion of class, your student will be taught that a “stranger”
is “someone you do not know well, and mom and dad have not told them is safe.” We talk
about how “strangers” do NOT need our help (ex: help me find my dog) and that “when in
doubt, GET OUT!”. Since “strangers” come in all shapes and sizes, we do NOT encourage any
negative stereotypes as far as what a “bad guy” is, but we do tell our students “its ok to hurt
someone’s feelings to stay safe.” As an instructor who has taught thousands of kids over the
past 10 years, I would rather have one of my students have to apologize for being “rude” than
be hurt in any way.
Our classes are offered as a fundraiser for local schools, so we are excited to announce
that 100 percent of the money paid for these classes will go DIRECTLY to Loveland
Classical Schools! At the end of our sessions, students will have the chance to test for their
first martial arts belt- orange belt!

CLASS SPACE IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 25 STUDENTS REGISTERED IN EACH CLASS.
