The bizhub PRESS C1070 is a color copier targeted to high-volume production and commercial environments. And, with several optional print controllers available, including Fiery and Creo controllers, the device can provide
the level of image quality required of environments with graphics-intensive
printing needs, such as marketing departments, according to Konica Minolta.
These features also make the bizhub PRESS C1070 ideal for organizations
that want to bring work they may have otherwise outsourced in-house, the
company adds.
NEW & NOTEWORTHY
The bizhub PRESS C1070 replaces the bizhub PRESS C7000. According
to the company, one of the most notable enhancements is the device’s airassisted paper feeder options, which feature two variable-speed blowers
on the front and back of the trays, helping to eliminate paper jams. As with
the predecessor, organizations can choose from four different print controllers when equipping the device with optional network print functionality. The
Konica Minolta controller prints via PCL 5c/6, Adobe PostScript 3 and XPS
drivers, and allows memory to be expanded up to 14 GB. The Creo controller
features a 3.46-GHz Intel Quad Core processor and 5 GB of memory, along
with a 1.5 TB hard drive. It also includes a keyboard and mouse. The internal
Fiery controller prints via PCL 5/6, Adobe PostScript 3 and EPS, and has 2

GB of memory and a 500 GB hard drive. And the external Fiery controller prints via Adobe PostScript 3 and
EPS, with 4 GB of memory and a 1-TB hard drive.
Image quality has also been improved, according to Konica Minolta. A number of factors contribute to
this, including the device’s new Screen-Enhancing Active Digital processing, along with improved frontto-back-page image registration accuracy, the company says. Further, the unit includes Konica Minolta’s
fourth-generation Simitri HD toner, which now has some of the developer built in, leading to less frequent
toner replacements. The enhanced toner technology also allows for lower fusing temperatures and provides
improved magenta pigment for better production of red hues, the company adds. Additionally, the device
can produce a wider array of colors, with support for not only CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow and black) color,
but also RGB (red, green, blue) color. Other enhancements include higher standard memory and maximum
hard drive capacities, as well as a higher maximum monthly duty cycle.
COMPETITORS
According to Konica Minolta, the bizhub PRESS C1070 competes with the Xerox Color J75 Press; bliQ lists
the Canon imagePRESS C7011VPS and Ricoh Pro C751EX as additional competitors. This device surpasses the competition in terms of memory (standard and maximum) and maximum hard drive capacities.
It is also the only one that offers support for XPS scan file formats, enabled by the optional Konica Minolta
controller. However, it is the only device that does not provide standard Ethernet. Further, it has the slowest
scan speeds of the group.
RUNNING COSTS
Based on pricing and rated toner, drum and developer yields, supplies cost per page is approximately .37
cents for black and 2.41 cents for color.
OTHER CONFIGURATIONS
Konica Minolta also offers the bizhub PRESS C1070P, a single-function printer version of this model, for an
MSRP of $56,100. The unit is available with a choice between the four print controllers.
