Horses For Causes
Spring 2014
Heart of England Training are doing their bit to help raise money and awareness for local charities. Each training centre
has been paired with a charity that is located in the same area and will arrange a number of fundraising activities. So far
there have been a variety of cash generating ideas including raffles, fancy dress and even some ponies visiting!
The idea behind this is to engage learners in planning, conducting and executing their ideas whilst promoting good
causes in the surrounding areas. The charities we are involved with are:
Rugby - YMCA, Coventry - Vibes, Birmingham - RSVP, Leicester - Phoenix
Children’s Foundation
Visiting the YMCA in Rugby
Jan Gibson, who is leading on the charity
activity, said:
“All training centres have made a great start to
their charity fund raising. Three of our sponsored charities have already visited our training centres to give learners an insight into how
their donations will be used. Learners in
Birmingham were visitied by RSVP and found
out more about the fantastic help and support
they offer to survivors of rape and sexual
abuse. The YMCA are working closely with
staff and learners in Rugby to help improve
the lives of young people living in Lucas House and a visit to the hostel has been aranged to see the facilities
first hand. Learners at Market Way and Broadgate training centres in Coventry have attended workshops with
Coventry Vibes to learn more about mental health and fun was had by all when practising stress and anxiety
management techniques. Learners in Leicester met Tillie a Shetland pony from their adopted charity The
Phoenix Children’s Foundation.”
Tillie visiting our Leicester training centre
The future plans to raise even more money for our chosen charities include The Wolf Run. Eight members of staff will tackle this ten
kilometre run with obstacles throughout, just to make it that bit
more difficult. We have a jumble sale, raffle and cake sale in Coventry, which is open to anyone. Leicester are completing a walk
around Bradgate park to raise money for the Phoenix Children’s
Foundation. So far, we have raised £550 for charity and we are working towards a target of £1000 in each area this year. To keep up to
date with our progress, join us on Facebook and Twitter.

2014 Induction Weeks
Every year Heart of England Training opens its doors to a huge amount of young people for them to come and
have a taste of what it is like to be a learner in one of our training centres or an apprentice.
During these two weeks in July everyone will experience life with Heart of England Training by participating in
demonstrations, practical work, group work and employer engagment.
The aim of the Induction Weeks is to give learners
a real idea of what happens on our programmes on
a daily basis, whilst enjoying themselves in a
thoroughly interactive week.
Demonstration in cutting
We encourage employers to join us on the final day
of each week, so they meet potential learners they
may want to recruit onto an apprenticeship, talk to
other employers or have a look around our training
centres.
If you would like more information or want to visit
us on our Induction Weeks please contact a
member of our Business Development Team
(details on back page).
Week 1: 1st, 2nd & 3rd July 2014
Week 2: 15th, 16th & 17th July 2014
Inspirational Salon
Rebecca Stone, owner of Rebecca Ann Hair Studio, only started training in hairdressing in 2007. Since then she has
gone on to big things by owning her own salon. This is even more impressive when you consider that Rebecca has
Cystic Fibrosis.
All the stylists in the salon like the way Heart of England Training’s Samantha Davies trains. Rebecca said:
“Samantha is a great assessor, she talks to everyone in the correct way. She takes her time and ensures that
everything is done to the highest standard”
Over the last few months the salon has been raising money for The Cystic Fibrosis Trust. They have raised over £700 in
the salon through raffles. Plans are coming along to have a music night in which local bands will play and a masquerade ball so everyone can get dressed up and donate to this great charity.
The team within Rebecca Ann Hair Studio has
developed into a strong one in a very short
space of time. Rebecca’s sister, Leanne, works
in the salon and has Down’s Syndrome.
Rebecca likes to promote the fact that her
sister is as capable as everyone else and is
loved by stylists and customers.

If you would like to support The Cystic Fibrosis
Trust and help raise the profile of this
wonderful chairty you can donate at:
