Performance Calendar
Fall 2014
Occasionally it is necessary to change the date/time of a scheduled concert. If you are traveling a distance, you may call
the Department of Music Office at 978-934-3850, Monday-Friday, 9 - 5 to be sure a particular concert is as scheduled.
Admission is free (unless noted) and open to the community. Durgin Hall is located at 35 Wilder Street, Lowell-- Durgin
Concert Hall is located on the first floor and Fisher Recital Hall on the lower level. Both venues are handicap accessible.
Free parking is available after 4 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends at the Wilder Lot across from the McGauvran
Student Union building (92 Wilder Street on Google Maps). Handicap Parking is available on Solomont Way off of
Broadway Street—go to www.uml.edu/maps.

Thu | 30 | University Orchestra Halloween Concert, Durgin Concert Hall, 7:30pm. Mark Latham conducts
the University Orchestra in a frightening array of Halloween favorites, including Saint Saens’ Danse Macabre,
Marchner’s Der Vampyr Overture, and Berlioz’s March to the Scaffold and Witches’ Sabbath from Symphonie
Fantastique.

featuring members of the Lowell Youth Orchestra with UMass Lowell String Project begins at 2:30pm. Boston
Symphony Orchestra musicians, Nicole Monahan, Sheila Fierkowsky (violins), Kazuko Matsusaka, Daniel Getz
(violas) and Mickey Katz (cello) perform string quintets by Bruch and Mendelssohn. To reserve free tickets,

Fri | 14 | Electric Guitar Ensemble Concert, Fisher Recital Hall, 7:30pm. Jon Wheatley directs.
Sun | 16 | The Violin and Lyras of Greece, Fisher Recital Hall, 3:00pm. The Hellenic Culture and Heritage
Society present a performance featuring traditional folk music from all regions of Greece as played on the violin
and laouto, as well as lyras from Thrace, Macedonia, Crete and Pontos, performed by Beth Bahai Cohen (violin
and lyras), Sandy Theodorou (laouto, accordion, vocals) and Fabio Pirozzolo (percussion). Free, no tickets
necessary.

from Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, directed by Janice Giampa with Elaine Purcell Smith, piano.

Freshman Chorus performing selections from Vivaldi’s Gloria, and music from Schindler’s List.
