According to Section 648A of the
Head Start Act, guidelines have been
established and now require all
Head Start teaching assistants in
a center-based program to have
the following:
The content of the course includes a
well-balanced view of a child’s developmental
process as well as information on the
importance of health, safety and nutrition.



At least a Child Development
Associate credential;
Be enrolled in a program leading
to an associate or baccalaureate
degree; or
Be enrolled in a CDA - Child
Development Associate credential
program to be completed within
two (2) years

Course Description
This 12-week course involves a comprehensive
curriculum created by the CDA Council and
presented to students in an effort to prepare
them for the process of CDA credentialing. Upon completion, students are eligible to
take the CDA Assessment and
receive credentials from the Council for
Professional Recognition.
Course Delivery
This course will be taught by knowledgeable
instructors with experience and expertise in the
area of early childhood education.
CDA Competency Standards and Goals will be
reviewed in great detail so that students are
able to practice them effectively in an early
learning environment.
Course Admissions Requirements



Applicants must meet the following
requirements:
Must be 18 years of age or older
Have a high school diploma or equivalent
Have 480 hours of verifiable experience
working with children in the last (5)years.
