COMMAND ENHANCED TORQUE CONNECTION The CET™ connection has many advantages over API and the competition when used for drilling deep wells, extended reach wells, horizontal wells, and slim hole wells. Least turns to make-up of any premium connection 170%-200% of the torsional strength API connections Available on drill pipe and heavy-weight drill pipe in sizes from CET™26 to CET™69 Due to the higher make-up torque of the CET™, it is ideal for use in the extended reach laterals found in today’s shale plays Increased Torsional Yield Strength The CET™ has increased torsional yield strength due to the addition of a secondary shoulder. The secondary shoulder is a mechanical stop that reduces internal stresses in the pin and box of the connection allowing the connection to handle more torque. As an example, a 5 1/4” OD and 2 9/16” ID NC40 connection make-up torque would be of 16,600 ft-lbs and a CET™39 connection with 4 7/8” OD and 2 11/16” ID dimensions would have a make-up torque of 22,200 ft-lbs. Improved Hydraulic Efficiencies The CET™ connection has a smooth ID through the connection. The connection can be made with smaller OD’s and larger ID’s than a standard API connection and have higher torque capacities. The larger and smoother ID improves the hydraulic efficiency of the tool joints. This also helps prevent cement and other items from becoming trapped in the tool joint. When drilling smaller OD holes, CET™’s smaller OD tool joints improves hydraulic efficiency and allows the pipe to be fished if necessary. Lower Maintenance and Running Costs The CET™ costs less to maintain than the competitors due to the simple maintenance facility licensing structure that includes no royalties. Command Energy Services recommends the use of a stabbing guide when using the CET™ connection. Doing so will reduce the amount of repairs required to less than 1% per inspection, CET™ saves time by requiring only 5 turns to make-up. Increased Wear Resistance The life of your drill pipe is extended by being able to wear to a smaller OD than API connections while maintaining a torsional capacity greater than 80% of the drill pipe tube. The minimum OD varies with grade and weight of the drill pipe.
