Email: [email protected] ART SPACE Unbound WHAT: An exhibition of recent paintings, titled ‘Unbound’ by Kolkata based well-known artist Sajal Kanti Mitra. Sajal Kanti Mitra dwells in the twilight world of the figurative and the abstract. His visual designs speak of an interface between the two kinds of ideations, often indicating the potential of one emerging from within the other. An unmistakably urban visualiser, the fact of Mitra's upbringing in Chandernagore may well have contributed to his ability to describe his ideas through a very personal idiom which has not been sullied by his academic training in Calcutta during the late Eighties. There is a touch of romanticism in his works, especially those relating to lone, pensive women. Born in 1965, he graduated first class first from Government College of Art and Craft, Calcutta in 1989. He received the Dr B C Memorial medal and merit certificates from his College in the years 1987 & 1988 and won Camlin awards in the years 2004 & 2007. He has held one solo show and participated in several group exhibitions. WHEN: March 6 to 12, 11 am to 7 pm WHERE: Hirji Jehangir Art Gallery, 161-B, M.G.
