Description of content: The notified proposed amendment to the Chilean Food Health
Regulations (Supreme Decree No. 977/96) contains provisions on the nutritional
composition of food and on food advertising, in accordance with Law No. 20.606. It seeks
to inform the public of the energy, sugar, sodium and saturated fat content of the food it
consumes in order to encourage it to avoid unnecessary, excessive intake, which can lead
to obesity and related non-communicable diseases.

Objective and rationale, including the nature of urgent problems where
applicable: Protection of human, in particular children's, health.

Relevant documents: Propuesta de modificación del Reglamento Sanitario de Alimentos
(Proposed Amendment to the Chilean Food Health Regulations). This new notification
replaces notifications G/TBT/N/CHL/219 and G/TBT/N/CHL/221 and the respective
addenda thereto.
