Welcome Len Ford, CPP: Executive VP and Managing Director

Jason Hamilton, CPP
It gives me great pleasure to announce the addition of Len Ford to the
ALERT Executive Team. Mr. Ford will serve as Executive Vice President and
Managing Director in charge of security expansion for Southwest Florida , to
include Lee , Charlotte and Collier County. Len has over 30 years of experience in contract security, consulting and investigations. His past experiences
include executive positions with the world’s largest security providers with
a specialty in the development of risk-mitigating security and access control
solutions designed to integrate security personnel, patrol and security technology.
Prior to joining ALERT Protective Services, Mr. Ford served for many years
as Vice President of Sales for Securitas Security Services USA. As Vice President, he played an integral
part in managing and growing a $300 million region that included 10,000 employees. Prior responsibilities included developing and leading the sales and marketing strategy for a large international consulting
and investigations organization. In addition he developed objectives, policies and programs for the sales
and marketing activities of a $2.6 billion dollar services enterprise. Mr. Ford was employed with Ernst &
Young in 2003, as a director in their Litigation Advisory Group.
With his tenure and expertise, Len is passionate about his clients. He states:
“As a security professional with over three decades of experience I am enthusiastic about being able to discuss
security issues with my clients. An excellent security company will assist its clients in obtaining and providing the
best security program at the best cost for their particular needs. The best security at the best cost (not opposing
concepts) can be easier to achieve than one may initially believe" says Len..."There are three distinct areas to be
considered, as Florida case law, in particular, is specific regarding how property owners and managers can be
found negligent. A competent security company will always consult clients in three exacting areas:
1) duty to protect
2) foreseeability and prevention
3) incident causation or property manager’s / owner’s provision of safe and secure environment.
Owners and managers do not have to spend a lot of money to meet these standards. An educated and trained
security professional will know how to address these issues and, most importantly, will consult with his client to
budget and implement a prudent security program.”
Len is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP™), as awarded by ASIS International, the world’s largest organization with over 36,000 members worldwide. As such, he is Board Certified in Security Management. This certification is awarded to individuals whose primary responsibilities are in security management, have the necessary experience & education and who have demonstrated advanced knowledge
in eight separate disciplines that include:

Since early 2012, ALERT has been running a formal officer recognition program
known as OFFICER SPOTLIGHT. Our goal is to recognize members of our
ALERT Team each month for their hard word and dedication. These member are
present with a certificate and a gift card as well as have their picture taken. They
are “Spotlighted” in the ALERT Scene and in the Payroll Portal with a brief description of why they were chosen for this recognition.
Anyone can be nominated… site Officers, Flex Officers and Account Managers!
We based our choice for the Spotlight on recommendations from Clients, Residents, Branch Managers, Account Managers AND Security Officers. The best recommendations we can get are from fellow Officers and Account Managers! From
the Team Members spotlighted in our monthly newsletters, we will select finalists,
based on number, for either quarterly or yearly awards. This recognition is shared
with peers, ALERT Management and most importantly, CLIENTS! An example of a
previous SPOTLIGHT is shown here.
Officer Spotlight—Scott Grabowski
Officer Scott Grabowski was working at one of our
newest client sites, The Concession, when lightning stuck
very close to the South Gatehouse. This caused a surge
and a power outage, shutting off the lights, computers
and the entrance and exiting gates. At this point Officer
Grabowski had to manually open the entrance & exit
gates so residents would be able to enter and leave the
community, which would be normal procedures, but
Officer Grabowski to it one step further by creating a
step by step guide, to include pictures, on how to open
the gates at the site, in the event that this happened
again in the future. Thanks to Officer Grabowski for
thinking ahead and looking out for your coworkers this represents follow thru, initiative and
team work in the best sense.
Branch Managers and Account Managers have been consistently asked to send recommendations for SPOTLIGHT.
I am reminding all Officers to PLEASE DO THE SAME. If you would like to nominate someone that you feel has done an exceptional job in their position, please
don’t hesitate to send Human Resources, Branch Managers, or your Supervisor an email, or call me personally to tell me about them. It doesn’t take much… a
simple paragraph will do. These employees deserve the recognition!
Something to Consider….

The
Welcome Abby Rust: Operations Manager,
ALERT Southwest Florida Branch

Rob Hurth
Abby Rust joins the ALERT Protective
Services team as Operations Manager for
our Southwest Florida branch. She has
18 years of management experience in
the contract security and investigations
industry; including human resources, risk
management and operations.
She attended the University of Southern California and Humboldt State University.
Abby began her career as a private investigator in 1990 for Preston’s Investigations located in Burbank, California. Her largest
client was the State of California who contracted their worker’s
compensation and liability claims to be investigated by her company. Abby was extensively trained in surveillance, report writing and
taking witness statements. She remained with this company until
the owner passed away in 1998.
Abby then began working for Professional Security Consultants, a
very large contract security and executive protection company. In
the 9 years she was there, she went from Office Manager to Scheduling Manager to Operations Manager and ultimately to Human
Resources/Risk Manager. This was during the time when the company grew from 200 local employees to now being a global company employing more than 3000 security officers.
Abby’s husband was offered a position in Southwest Florida with
the company he’s been with for 26 years and so the family relocated to the Fort Myers area. She is very excited to be back in the
contract security industry and looks forward to working with all of
you.

Uniform Requisitions

Biagi Scotti
Over the past month or so, I have
received a number of uniform requisitions, for a variety of reasons. Some
have been as post-hire follow up
orders and others have been for
replacement of worn items. ALERT’s
goal is to have every security officer
looking his/her best, so in the case of
worn uniform items, I certainly understand. As a matter of efficiency
and to ensure we get the best possible shipping rates, we have enacted a
bi-monthly uniform ordering schedule for things that are out of stock.
The reason I am sharing these things with you is that a fair
number of these requested uniform items are still sitting in
my office waiting to be picked up, in some cases, nearly a
month after notification that they are ready for pick up. Because of this, we must implement a formal policy. When an
officer submits a uniform requisition and notified that uniforms
are ready for pick up, they will have one week pick them up at
their local branch office.
If the items ordered have not been picked up within that time frame, I
will put them back in stock for new hires or other uniform requisitions that need to be filled. Most importantly, if your uniform
requisition was for worn uniform items and you are on duty
and not adhering to our uniform standards & expectations as
detailed in your Company Orientation or Security Officer
Handbook, you may be subject to Corrective Action.
Some of you have asked me to have our Area Patrol supervisors deliver uniforms to you while on duty. Unfortunately, this is not workable,
and ha not been since 2008, except in emergency situations. Our
Patrol Supervisors are not a uniform delivery service they have supervision and patrol inspection duties to attend to. Having & wearing
uniforms are a personal responsibility, as much as having good personal hygiene.
Having said all of this, we understand that sometimes things happen
and you might have an issue getting your uniform items picked up
within this timeframe. If this should happen to you, please contact
either me or your supervisor so we can make alternate arrangements.
Employee Referral Program

Aetna and Life Insurance Policies Canceled
Biagi Scotti
We are encouraging all of our employee to make referrals, regardless of
the position he or she may hold with ALERT.
One of the things we ask in the hiring process with an applicant is how
they heard about us, and nothing sounds better than that they heard
about the position from one of our employees. ALERT does offer a
$100.00 bonus to employees that refer someone to a position with the
company. The only condition to receive this bonus is that the referred
applicant is hired and completes his or her 90 day probationary period.
So, refer a security officer today - it reflects well upon you and allows
you to make a little extra money.

Biagi Scotti
Due to the low number of participants during open enrollment,
ALERT is unable to offer Aetna Limited Medical Plan and the United
Healthcare Life Insurance policy. There was a participation minimum and unfortunately, we were not able to reach it. Please note
that if you signed up for any of these two plans you will not receive
these benefits and deductions will not be taken out of your check.
We are still offering Colonial Life plans and United Healthcare Dental/Vision plans.
