Dr. Haynes runs on a platform of building a Saanich that is sustainable, affordable and livable today and prepared for the challenges of tomorrow. Dr. Haynes states, “I am able to introduce new ideas and a fresh approach to Saanich Council and CRD. My history of community involvement and bringing groups together to forge innovative solutions will make a positive difference in Saanich Council and the CRD.” Dr. Haynes has a long history of grass roots community involvement, most recently as Chair of SCAN (Saanich Community Associations Network), President of the Saanich Legacy Foundation and is a past president of the Prospect Lake District Community Association. He has been instrumental in recent initiatives involving local food, environment, community engagement, neighbourhood improvements, community input into the sewage issue and has served in leadership positions in over 10 community organizations in Saanich since 2003. He is married with 3 sons. Many Saanich community leaders and supporters will be present at Dr. Haynes’ launch event on August 28th to show their support. This event presents a photo opportunity. Regional Community Engagement • Initiated series of SCAN* workshops covering, housing, food security, transportation, traffic, environment, tree canopy, urban development, health and safety and social well-‐being. Neighbourhood Improvements in his Community • Novel approaches yielding successful results for fundraising to restore the Prospect Lake Community Hall • Supported Saanich on improved recreational access for the community at Whitehead Park, Estelline Park, Prospect Lake South Park and the boat launch.
