5. DAILY WORK PERFORMED
Field construction activities performed during this period:
Saturday 09/20/14
1. The general contractor Corman Construction arrived on site to continue assembly of the truss bridge per
the approved shop drawings according to Rev. 3. The contractor worked on splicing sections A103, A104
and A106. All bolts have not been installed to snug-fit position at this time as the contractor has been
adjusting the grade of the bridge continuously by rigging the bridge at particular locations in order for
members to align and connect. Corman continued to use a pneumatic jack and come-along to maneuver
truss members into alignment. Once all sections of the bridge were connected the contractor shot grades
for the bridge and attempted to get the bridge as close to grade as possible.

Monday 09/22/14
1. The general contractor Corman Construction arrived on site to begin backfilling the Trail Abutment
retaining wall. The contractor removed steel forms from the wall facing and plugged all Shea bolt holes.
Corman then proceeded to install a waterproofing membrane on all construction joint per DDOT Standard
Drawing 703. Corman backfilled the wall with approximately 9 inches of fill material on the inside face
and then placed stone atop. Corman test pitted to find the infiltration trench drain located along the east
fence of the trail work area; once located Corman started to tap into the drain and connect the 10” PVC
pipe.
2. The general contractor Corman Construction had the Skidmore test done on the TCB A325 and A325
Hexagonal bolts. Skidmore test results for TCB 7/8inch diameter were 42000Ibf (2#) and 5100Ibf as
against the minimum of 39000Ibf, and they were 58000Ibf (2#) and 6200Ibf as against the minimum of
39000Ibf for the A325 Hexagonal bolt. Corman did the final check on the camber and started torqueing
the bolts in place.
3. CSX Flagger Danny Meyer was on site on this date.
4. WMATA Flagger Stephon Paige was on site on this date.
Tuesday 09/23/14
1. The general contractor Corman Construction arrived on site to continue backfilling the trail abutment with
#57 stone between approximate Station markers 47+00 and 47+50. The contract plans showed compact
fill to be placed at this location but according to the approved change order the contractor submitted to
place #57 stone in lieu of compact fill. Corman placed the stone in small lifts and employed compactive
effort by means of a jumping jack along the edges and a remotely controlled sheep foot vibratory roller.
Corman placed and compacted fill material for the 2’–0” bench shown on the outside face of the retaining
wall per the approved plans.
2. The general contractor Corman Construction, second crew had the Skidmore test done on the TCB A325
and A325 Hexagonal bolts. Skidmore test results for TCB 7/8inch diameter were 39000Ibf (2#) and
51000Ibf as against the minimum of 39000Ibf for the lot number 16426 (7/8” dia.x2 ¼” TC Bolt) and
46000Ibf (2#) and 49000ibf for the lot number 17460 (7/8” dia.x2 ½” TC Bolt). The wrench check on
torqued bolts was done on the splice joint bolts at 110R and 105L (topmost eight) because of the limited
spaces to accommodate the calibrated torqueing wrench. Torqueing values recorded were 660,640,
700(2#), for the joint number 110R and 620(3#) and 600 for the joint number 105L compared to the
reference torque value of 580 determined with the Skidmore test calibration. Corman was also on the job
site installing the angle (1.5inchx2inch) support at 12inch centers for the SIP form installation.
3. CSX Flagger Danny Meyer was on site on this date.
4. WMATA Flagger Stephon Paige was on site on this date.
Wednesday 09/24/14
1. The general contractor Corman Construction arrived on site to finish backfilling the trail abutment with #57
stone between approximate Station markers 47+00 and 47+50. The contractor rolled the material with a
sheep foot remotely controlled compactor and a sled tamper. The structure which was standing at
approximate Sta. 47+00 was demolished by Corman to allow for the surveyors to shoot the proper line
and grade. The contractor accepted a delivery of CR-6 stone to place atop the 57 stone at the trail
abutment approach. Corman placed 6 inches of material at the approach per the approved plans. The
material was compacted with the same aforementioned equipment. DDOT Technician was on site to

conduct density test. The first compaction test failed due to a low moisture reading; Corman wet the
material, re-rolled it and a passing compaction test was conducted. See DDOT’s Technician report for
soil compaction dated 9/24/14.
2. The general contractor Corman Construction, second crew and the sub-contractor TNT welders were on
the jobsite welding the 1.5”x2.0” angles for the SIP truss deck pan support and the 7.5”x10”-10GA angle
for the curb line (0.125” weld, 1.5inch length at 12inch center to center). The 2” flat 10 GA strap cut to
length was also welded at 18” center to center on the curb line angle.
3. CSX Flagger Danny Meyer wasn’t on site on this date.
4. WMATA Flagger Stephon Paige was on site on this date.
Thursday 09/25/14
1. The general contractor Corman Construction arrived on site and left shortly thereafter due to inclement
weather. The field inspectors utilized the day to review the truss bridge erection plan as the contractor
plans to erect the truss next week Tuesday night, September 30, 2014.
2. CSX Flagger Danny Meyer wasn’t on site on this date.
3. WMATA Flagger Stephon Paige was on site on this date.

and continued welding the 1.5”x2.0” angles for the SIP truss deck pan support., the 7.5”x10”-10GA angle
for the curb line (0.125” weld, 1.5inch length at 12inch center to center) per submittal #69 on the west.
The 2” flat 10 GA strap cut to length was also welded at 18” center to center on the curb line angle and
stringer member of the curb section as per submittal # 61 on the east side. Also installations to anchor the
temporary safety fence around the structure were being installed on the vertical tubes of the bridge
structure.
2. The general contractor Corman Construction arrived on site to begin installing CSX hand rail clamps for
the CSX protection shield. The contractor used a soft geotextile product to place between the steel truss
member and the clamp to protect the bridge paint from scratches, chips, etc. Corman began to cover the
black painted section of truss members at all field connections in preparation for bridge paint. One field
splice connection was primed in the bottom chord at the connection of members a106 to a107 (work in
progress).
3. The sub-contractor Best Fence was on site to remove sections of the CSX fencing adjacent the trail side
easement lot. The contractor stated all sections of fence will be replaced once bridge is erected. The
crane location on page 9 of the CSX submittal 10 shows the crane swing radius to be obstructed by the
CSXT fence and DDOT black ornamental fence..
