* The Editor's Perspective: Publishing in the Digital Age *
With so many more options and avenues to get your work published, why is it still so hard? In
this interactive session led by Matthew Limpede, editor of Carve magazine and co-founder of
Carve Literary Services, you’ll learn the steps and methods to pursue traditional, independent,
or self-publishing for short stories, novels, and memoirs. We’ll discuss the success of e-readers
in allowing unknown writers to be discovered, and you’ll get to see the editor's perspective by
looking at actual first pages of submissions to a literary magazine and sharing thoughts on if
they’re publish-worthy or not.

* Revising is NOT Editing *
(Required for QEP certification)
Revising is not editing. Many students believe that the terms “revision” and “editing” are
synonyms. Therefore, even if they understand that writing is a multi-step process, what might
result is their submission of several so-called drafts that are really just the same paper with
minor changes in spelling, capitalization, or punctuation rather than significant modifications
to the ideas. This presentation offers a simple strategy that will help students understand the
difference between these two important writing activities so that they improve their critical
thinking as well as their writing skills.
