Kalakshetra presents Bal Kala Mahotsav, supported by SEED INFOTECH.
Since the year 1996, Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School has been organizing the inter-school
Bal-Sangeet Competitions for classical music (Vocal + Instrumental) and classical dance. Its aim
has been to promote the appreciation of traditional Indian art-forms among school children and
give them an appropriate platform for showcasing their talent. This year we have added the
fine arts section as well.
We have been getting an enthusiastic response from schools and students ever since our
inception. This is the 18th year of this annual prestigious competition! Find all the information

Entry Fees:For Hindustani Classical Vocal/Instrumental/Indian Dance (Solo)/Poster Making
and Collage – Rs.100/per participant
For India Classical Dance (Group) – Rs. 500/per group
Entry fees are to be paid in CASH ONLY
Rules and Regulations:General Rules 1. All participants should send their entry forms through the schools only.
Individual forms will not be accepted.
2. The number of entries from a school in any/all the categories is unlimited.
3. Forms have to be filled carefully. Incomplete forms will not be accepted.
4. Duly filled forms along with entry fees should be submitted in the office of
Dr. Kalmadi Shamarao High School, Ganeshnagar between 11.30 am to 2.30
pm. Last date of submission of entry forms is 15th Nov 2014.
5. Entry fees would not be refunded under any circumstances.
6. Elimination round would be held for all categories of performing arts,
except Indian Dance (Group). The slot given to participants would be
intimated on the email after 15th Nov.
7. Participants are expected to strictly adhere to the time schedule intimated
to them, during elimination and final rounds. They must report at the
registration desk at least 30 minutes before the competition.
8. Participants should arrange for their own accompanists and accompanying
instruments.
9. Participants should not come in their school uniforms.
10.Participants should not announce/disclose their name or that of their
school. Doing so would result in disqualification.
11. The decision of the panel of judges would be final.
Rules for Hindustani Classical Vocal/Instrumental 1. The time limit for performance is minimum 3 min and maximum 5 min.
2. For vocal, only tabla, harmonium and tanpura (electronic/acoustic) are
allowed as accompanying instruments. For instrumental, only tabla and
tanpura (electronic/acoustic) are allowed as accompanying instruments.
3. For instrumental solo, following instruments shall be considered for
performance:
a) Swar-vadya: Violin, Harmonium, Flute (Bansuri), Sitar, Sarod, Jal-tarang
and Santoor
b) Taal-vadya: Tabla and Pakhawaj
4. Film songs or private album songs/pieces cannot be performed.
5. Participants are expected to maintain the purity of Hindustani Classical
Music.
Rules for Indian Dance (Solo and Group) 1. Live accompaniment is allowed.
2. If participants are going to use recorded music for their performance, an
MP3 recording of the music, has to be submitted on a normal CD (not a
DVD) at the registration desk, at the time for registration.
3. The time limit for solo performance is minimum 3 min and maximum 5 min
while that for group dance is minimum 7 min and maximum 8 min.
4. Film songs or private album songs/pieces cannot be used as music for
performance.
5. For group dance, troupe size can be between 5 to 8 participants.
Rules for Poster Making and Collage:
1. Subject for poster making and collage will be given at the time of the
competition. Paper for both will be provided by us.
2. Time limit for both poster making and collage would be 90 min.
3. Theme for collage would be ‘Best out of waste’. Collage has to be made
from dry waste material (to be brought by the participants).
4. Any type of colours (water colours/poster colours/pencil colours etc.) can
be used for poster making.
5. Originality and creativity would be encouraged.
