CUBA High Definition Playout Fact Sheet

CUBA High Definition Playout
Fact Sheet
CUBA HDP is a complete Channel-In-A-Box playout system designed for professional video broadcast.
CUBA-HDP combines video playout, On-Air graphics, playlist mangement and transfer management in
one easy to use and cost effective single server solution.
Using the web based administration tool CUBA Broadcast Manager multiple playout serever can be
monitored and administrated.
Output Types
SDI
SDI- video output can be chosen from SD/HD and PAL/NTSC. CUBA HDP is able to output a TV
program in SD and HD at the same time. Depending on the chosen I/O Board audio can be
delivered embedded or on a separate digital or analog output.
UDP
Using the UDP-Option the program can be delivered as an UDP Stream e.g. for program delivery
to a CDN. The UDP stream can be encoded with different resolutions or encoders.
ASI
Using the ASI option program output is a DVB compliant ASI stream.
Mixed Playlists
A playlist can contain video clips with different container formats and codecs. HD/SD up/down-scaling
and PAL/NTSC norm conversion is handled automatically corresponding to the configured out format.
Playlist Features
CUBA HDP uses playlists in a proprietary XML format. Customer specific playlist formats can be imported
to CUBA-HDP.
There are different start types for video events in CUBA HDP’s rundown control:
Auto Follow (Default)
The event starts frame accurate with the end of the preceeding event. For each event you can choose
between back-to-back playback or video/audio blending.
Absolute
The event starts frame accurate at a date/time specified in the playlist. Gaps in or between playlists can
be filled automatically by CUBA HDP’s auto-fill feature
Manual
The events starts by manual operator interaction.
Loop
Either a single event or the whole playlist will be looped permanently.
External Trigger
The start of an events is performed by an external trigger. Externa triggers can be within a video signal
connected to CUBA HDP’s video input or using the GPIO option.
A playlist can contain individual trim in/trim out times for each event in the playlist. CUBA HDP comes
with a clip trimmer which allows you to preview clips from the rundown and to set trim points.
Playlist-Management
CUBA HDP comes with an integrated playlist management. Playlists from a defined file system folder
(watch folder) will be appended automatically to the current rundown. Eventually resulting overlaps or
gaps will be corrected automatically.
Using the optional product CUBA Broadcast Manager provides a web browser interface to create or
import playlists.
Multi-Channel Audio
CUBA HDP handles all audio tracks from media files or SDI input. The integrated audio mixer enables you
to adjust audio levels and to route audio tracks. DolbyE encoded audio tracks in media files or SDI input
are processed bit-transparent.
Live-Input
With the live input option CUBA-HDP can process input signals as SDI video or UDP streams (Q4/2013). A
live signal can be mixed/switched to the output manually or controlled by playlist. With the integrated
DVE feature CUBA-HDP is able to scale a live signal.
On-Air-Graphics/Secondary Events
CUBA-HDP comes with a powerful graphics engine. Secondary events like corner bugs (static or image
sequences), crawls/tickers, clocks, lower thirds, DVE effects (e.g. push back) and so on can be created
easily with CUBA-HDP.
More complex graphical requirements can be created using the authoring tool CUBA Creator. CUBA-HDP
comes with a scripting API which allows you to extend the functionality of CUBA-HDP.
Monitoring
The user interface of CUBA-HDP contains a program preview and VU-meters for audio input and output.
Issues in the program’s rundown are logged in a file. Log messages can be sent by email.
Using CUBA Broadcast Manager playout servers can be monitored from a web interface.
