The information contained herein was obtained from trusted websites and may be helpful to learners who have no access to the internet especially in rural areas. We hope that learners from disadvantaged schools will find the information in this booklet useful as they navigate their way to a bright future. It should be ensured that all grade 12 learners who have limited or no access to the internet or other information resources have a free copy of it. Prospectuses of most institutions do not have contact details of other institutions found in South Africa. The Central Applications Office (CAO) deals with the major tertiary institutions found in KwaZulu-Natal. One may wish to study in another province e.g. Gauteng or Western Cape. This booklet has contact details of all major tertiary institutions of South Africa to give learners more options. In this first edition of the HDP Outside World Guidebook there may be limited information on bursaries, careers, etc. More information will be added in subsequent editions. Nonetheless, all institutions have financial aid and career counselling offices. When contacting the institutions, you are advised to request application forms, enquire about funding opportunities, careers, accommodation, closing dates for applications, etc. They will give you all the information you need. It is in your interest to do this as soon as possible. The information in this booklet was compiled as part of the HDP’s education support strategies. HDP stands for Hlokozi Development Programme. The HDP is a public, nonprofit organisation that intends to accomplish the following goals through its programmes i) Enterprise Development, ii) Education Support, iii) Leadership and human development, iv) Sport, Art, Culture and Recreation, vi) Infrastructural Development, vii) Legal Awareness, etc. The HDP is not affiliated with any political party and is made of students and working professionals who come from Hlokozi. Our main goal is to improve the lives of the people of Hlokozi in all aspects. If there is something you would like the HDP to do for you or the Hlokozi community, let us know and we will do our best to help. We would like feedback from the learners/teachers. We would like to know what you think of this booklet and what information you would like to see in next year’s edition. Please send your comments or suggestions to [email protected]. However, in this booklet we listed only one, Coastal KZN. More FET colleges may be added in later editions when more research on them has been done. FET colleges3 allow people with or without matric to further their studies while improving their technical skills, thereby improving their employability. The minimum entrance requirement for admission to an FET is Grade 9. With Grade 9, one can enrol for a National Certificate Vocational (NCV) level 2 (an equivalent of Grade 10) at an FET. NCV level 3 and NCV level 4 are equivalent to Grades 11 and 12 respectively although someone who studied at an FET has relatively better technical skills. A person graduating from an FET (NCV level 4) may be admitted to a university of technology or university if they qualify.
