Centre.
Michał Dżoga
We are pleased to announce that this year’s conference
is acting as closing event of inGenious - the European
Coordinating Body in Science, Technology, Engineering
and Mathematics (STEM) Education - a joint initiative
launched by European Schoolnet and the European
Roundtable of Industrialists (ERT) aiming to reinforce
young European’s interest in science education and
careers and thus address anticipated future skills gaps
within the European Union. The General Assembly for
ECB members only will be held on Wednesday, 24th of
September, following the STEM Educator Academy.
During this year’s Academy we also have the pleasure

Marc Durando
Ahead of us we have three days of speeches,
presentations, workshops and knowledge exchange
in the marvelous capital city of Warsaw. As inGenious
also organises its 9th workshop for teachers
simultaneously, we will have ample opportunities to
share experiences with invited teachers and also will
we get the opportunity to meet with excellent students
participating in the 2014 EUCYS contest.
During these Warsaw events our main priority will be to
openly discuss the changing ways of STEM education
in Europe and beyond and elaborate on future calls for
action as identified over the 3 years of the inGenious

European Science Fairs
Evaluation Framework and Skills
Mismatch in STEM report.
During the 2014 Academy we will have the pleasure
to share with you the results of two major joint Intel
and European Schoolnet’s projects, which
we have been working on over the past year:
European Science Fairs Evaluation Framework
and Skills Mismatch in STEM report.
To better understand what drives the youth towards
and off STEM careers, Intel and EUN have designed
and carried out the pilot implementation of the first
European Science Fair Evaluation Framework.
This pioneer project focused on two key target
groups: students and teachers, looking at their
experiences, motivations and future plans regarding
STEM. The 2013 pilot edition was conducted
in 4 countries (Portugal, Netherlands, Hungary
and Czech Republic). Following the successful
pilot we have now launched the 2014 edition
of this project, extending it to 10 European countries
(Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, The Netherlands,
Hungary, Northern Ireland, Norway, Poland, Portugal,
Sweden) with final report to be presented at STEM
Educator Academy 2014.
The Skills Mismatch report is another joint project
of Intel and EUN, prepared in cooperation with Think
Young. The research will look into the gap between
skills acquired by graduates of STEM degrees,
and skills sought after by the industry. The research
paper based on this study will be disseminated
at the conference.

About the event
Copernicus Science Centre
by Night with EUCYS
After its everyday working hours, the Copernicus
Science Centre welcomes the guests of the European
Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS)
and STEM Educator Academy.
It will be an unforgettable evening full of scientific
experiences and great fun in a casual atmosphere.
We strongly encourage you to experiment
at the interactive galleries of the Centre, which hold
exhibits related to various fields of science. You can
find fascinating devices explaining the laws that
govern the world as well as art exhibits showing
the relationship between science and art. We also
have got two theatres. Especially for the participants
of the EUCYS, the humanoid actors of the Robotic
Theatre will perform “The Secret of an Empty
Drawer”; it is a performance about different
dimensions inspired by “Flatland”, the nineteenthcentury novella by Edwin A. Abbott. At the High
Voltage Theatre, you will be able to see Tesla’s
alternating current transformer, Jacob’s ladder and
plasma balls. You will also have the opportunity
to feel the flow of current on your own skin after
touching a Van de Graaff generator. You will have
your hair stand on end! On the occasion of the visit
of the competition guests, we have also prepared
special attractions at The Heavens of Copernicus
Planetarium. Please feel invited to see the film
“Dream to Fly”, which presents the history of
aviation. It is a very modern production, the Oscarwinner of the planetarium industry, which was
created just by the employees of the Copernicus
Science Centre.
