The latest news and events from Eagle House
From the Headmaster
EHA Santa’s Grotto, Pre-Prep Christmas production, staff pantomime, Old Library
decorating…. it must be nearly Christmas!
Many thanks to the EHA for hosting our Santa’s Grotto last Saturday. Father Christmas
was kept busy for hours on end and it really got the festive season underway.
Thanks for all your support for the wonderful Pre-Prep shows this week. It was
lovely to see all the children on stage, clearly enjoying the whole experience. How
fantastic to see their little eyes light up when they spotted a familiar face in the
audience and heard the applause at the end of the songs.
The Old Library is looking lovely in all its Christmas finery and with, perhaps, the
largest Eagle House Christmas tree ever! Thank you to the team of staff responsible
for making it look so fantastic and the boarders for decorating the tree.
This evening is the staff pantomime – all three performances sold out! Thank you for
supporting us and I hope you are entertained!
Next week, it is the Christmas dinner, poetry recitation finals, Pre-Prep carols and
the Carol Service. The boarders also have exciting Christmas events to look forward
to, including their Christmas feast and carols around the fire. A lovely way to finish
a busy term!

Staffing Update
Dylan Ross has decided to move down to Dorset and will be leaving Eagle House at the end
of this term. Dylan has been working here for nearly eight years, having previously worked
at Sandhurst School and Wellington. During that time he has moved from being our ICT
technician to leading the department. He has been instrumental in the move to the use of
mobile technology and has revolutionised the ICT at Eagle House. We are hugely indebted
to him for his hard work, vision and ambition. He is looking forward to the move to Dorset and
has already found himself an excellent job utilising his skills in ICT.
Judy Phillips and Jaki Taylor will both be retiring at the end of this academic year. Judy will
have completed twenty years at Eagle House and has been a fabulous teacher in the junior
department of the school. Jaki has worked as a TA in the Pre-Prep and in the Art Department
for eighteen years and is responsible for most of the wonderful displays around the school.
Her art teaching has been an inspiration to us all. They will both be greatly missed.
We say goodbye to our two fantastic South African gap students at the end of this term. St
John Batchelor and Laura Bennett have both enjoyed a really successful year with us and
have contributed much to the school. We also say goodbye and thank you to Felix Fowler
after his term with us. We wish them all luck for the future.
Vanessa Giannikas finishes her term with us in the Science Department and I am hugely
grateful to her for the way in which she has stepped in to cover the two Year 6 classes.
I am delighted to announce that Ellie Farrell has been appointed to work in our Learning
Support Department. Ellie will be working at Eagle House and Wellington College and will
bring a wealth of experience, energy, enthusiasm and a caring and supportive approach to
the department. She will be working specifically with our intervention groups and liaising
closely with the English and Maths departments. We believe we have made the very best
appointment and Ellie will add great value to our learning support provision.
As previously announced, next term we welcome Jo Spencer as our new Head of Science
and we are currently in the process of appointing a lab technician to support her and the
department.
Imogen Arton-Powell (former Eagle House) has arrived from Australia as an additional gap
student until the middle of next term and we welcome two more Australians in January as our
gap students for 2015.
We welcome back Tabitha Iles from maternity leave in mid-February and she will take over
the classes currently taught by her maternity cover, Alexsis Fitzpatrick.
Next term, we will also be advertising for Neill Lunnon’s replacement as he heads back to
Wellington in the Summer after three fantastic years at the school. He will be taking on the
role of Deputy in charge of the Prince Albert Scholar’s Programme and the academy
links.
I will bring you further news next term as appointments are made.

A group of girls were lucky enough to train
with England Netball players, Jo Harten &
Ama Agbeze. The girls were put through
their paces by these talented players.
The Wizard of Oz is coming . . .
We had great fun auditioning for the Wizard
of Oz and we now have a cast ready to start
rehearsals for the show at The Wilde Theatre
on March 25th & 26th 2015.
Well done to eveyone who came along. It’s
time to follow that yellow brick road!
The magnificent tree in the Old Library was
decorated by the Boarders and what a great job
they did.
Meals for the last week of term will be made up
of Christmas lunches and use-up menus, which
means a huge variety to choose from and leaves
the cupboards empty for the holidays!

Well done to our golfers!
Golf News 2014
Golf at Eagle House has really grown as a sport and has come on phenomenally. This year
we have entered three players to go down to Shropshire to play in the IAPS tournament at
Macdonald Hill Valley golf club. We will also be taking part in the Independent Schools Golf
Association golf day on the 24th June at Sunningdale ladies.
Golf is also a big lunchtime activity because on Tuesday and Friday there are 19 children
who go down to Wellington College with David Renny and 15 children at East Berkshire
getting professional coaching from their team. In the summer these groups take part in
several matches for the school and every individual enjoys it very much.
A new addition to the golf agenda last year were golf colours and golf shirts, these really
make it more competitive between all the individuals. Also wearing a shirt for your school
makes you feel a lot more proud to be playing as part of the team. There were several
half colours and full colours awarded last year and these are handed out for outstanding
etiquette and attitude towards the game.
Finally on the 25th April every golfer at Eagle House will be invited to join us in a golf
championship at Wellington College. Howard Veary will very kindly donate trophies for
various categories that will be contested for.
The golfing spirit has definitely come on largely for the last two years and the attitude
between everyone has become a lot more competitive because we all want to do well
individually and for the school. There have been big improvements in individuals and
everyone is very proud to represent Eagle House.
