On this day students from all faculties, fields of studies, and in all semesters are welcome to make contact with some of the most influential companies in Germany. This year a record number of 50 companies from all branches and industrial sectors will be providing you with first hand information on internships, traineeships and direct job entries. As an additional part of the career fair a wide variety of fringe events that include a Career Dinner and several Warm-up-Workshops is offered. Here you get the chance to either talk to corporate representatives in person, or take part in application trainings where professionals will advise you on the process of career planning and provide you with helpful information on application strategies. In summary, the career fair constitutes the perfect opportunity for you to introduce yourself in oneon-one conversations and thus enhance your chances for an internship, or a direct career entry. Finally, there will also be a special Business Breakfast and Alumni Talk where young professionals tell you more about recent career trends and personal chances of advancement. To round things up, numerous services such as an application portfolio check, taking application photos and a brief introduction to an etiquette guide for career fairs are offered. |3 The Initiators AlumniUM e.V. The Career Development Center The career fair Business Contacts at the University of Münster was first initiated in 2008 by the Career Development Center (CDC) of the School of Business and Economics. As a mediator the CDC helps students during the transition from academic to professional life. Its remit consists of counseling and qualification measures as well as establishing contacts between students and potential employers. More precisely, it offers services that include personal career counseling, application portfolio checks, and organizing talks and workshops in cooperation with companies and application coaches. 4| Alumnium e.V. is the graduate network of the School of Business and Economics at the University of Münster which was founded in 2001. Since then it has successfully recruited 3000 members which makes it one of Germany’s biggest graduate networks in the field of economics. AlumniUM aims at establishing close partnerships between alumni, current students, the School of Business and Economics, and corporations. The Business Contacts GmbH, which is in charge of hosting the career fair, is an affiliate of the AlumniUM e.V. Marketing Alumni Münster e.V. Marketing Alumni Münster e.V. is an association of all former and current students as well as doctoral candidates at the Marketing Center Münster. It was founded by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. Heribert Meffert and with its 1100 members the association has become one of Germany’s biggest specialized graduate networks. You can apply for these job interviews via an online application form on our website www.businesscontactsmuenster.de between May 5 th and May 23 th 2014. The interviews will be scheduled individually and take place in separate rooms on the day of the fair. The application platform allows you to upload your CV and several letters of motivation. After the deadline the companies will have access to this database. You can choose between or combine two of the following application procedures: Conventional application: Directly apply at one or several companies of your choice with your CV and letter of motivation. Reversed application: Make your CV publicly available for those companies that offer one-on-one interviews to give them a chance to approach you proactively. At the end of the application procedure the companies will compare your qualifications with the corporate requirements. In case of a match the companies will then make an appointment for a oneon-one interview which takes place on June 13 th 2014. Stimmungsbild einsetzen 14 | | 15 Fair Preparations Application documents needed in the course of the career fair differ from a “conventional” application in two ways: 1. Since it is not clear which position you can apply for, a conventional cover letter is not needed. However, a motivational letter is highly recommended. It should include information about you, as well as information on any professional knowledge you might have already acquired. Make sure to point out why you would like to work for that specific company. 2. Your CV does not have to be fitted for a special company or position. It can be fitted, however, if you have already decided which position you want to apply for. When you found a company you consider most suitable for you, you should confirm your interest via email as soon as possible. Inquire whether additional documents from you are needed. If you do not hear back from a company within 10 days after your initial application, it is recommended to contact the company over the phone. There are a number of things to consider before talking to potential employers. Regardless which companies you want to approach, make sure to research the company’s profile and background first. Basic information about each company can be found in the career fair catalogue. The catalogue will also tell you what qualifications the companies are looking for in an applicant. For most companies there is also a point of contact given which should be used as the addressee in your application. For a good first impression dress for the fair the way you would for a job interview. Once you have approached an exhibition stand it is a good idea to come prepared with at least three thoughtprovoking questions to ask the company representatives. If a company holds the possibility for an interesting position such as an internship or even a job entry, do not hesitate to offer the representative your application documents. For introduction purposes a short application is sufficient (CV and letter of motivation).
