LSSD Sport Development Program and Ski Fit Northwestern Ontario A program to promote Cross country skiing in Northwestern Ontario The Lake Superior Ski District (LSSD) has initiated two programs designed to promote cross country skiing and introduce children, youth and adults to an ideal “Sport for Life” for people living in Northwestern Ontario. The Aims and Goals of the LSSD Sport Development Program and Ski Fit Northwestern Ontario are to: •

 Rainy Lake Ski Fun Days (with Rainy Lake Nordic Ski Club in Fort Frances).  First Nations Ski Camp in Thunder Bay (with the Aboriginal Sport & Wellness Council of Ontario). Anticipated Project Outcomes 2014-­‐15: promote healthy, active, outdoor recreation and sport participation; increase participation in cross country skiing across Northwestern Ontario. The mandate of these programs is to: •
Our proposed projects for 2014-­‐15: assist communities with existing ski clubs in expanding their current programs; introduce and support the development of cross country skiing in communities without programs. The Ski Fit Northwestern Ontario program’s aim is to assist Aboriginal and Métis communities in developing sport opportunities for their peoples.  300 people introduced to cross country skiing.  4000 hours of outdoor activity.  formation of new programs and ongoing ski opportunities in Fort Frances and Thunder Bay.
