Equitrac ‘Medusa’ Card Readers – End of Sale for Xerox channels
Purpose
The purpose of this bulletin is to provide formal End of Sale (EoS) notification for the Xerox hardware products
below. NDI is transitioning from the current or Medusa USB generation of card readers to the Equitrac ID or SharkM USB next generation card readers.

Background
The introduction of the Equitrac ID readers brings updated technology as well as hardware consolidation in the
form of two new single format readers as well as a multi-format card reader that handles both frequency ranges
used by other Nuance individual card readers. A stream-lined, common hardware portfolio reduces costs,
complexity and inventory, while allowing flexible configuration through a desktop application.
Timing
The last time buy date for the above part numbers will be November 30, 2014.
Maintenance and Service (M&S)
All existing M&S contracts will continue to be supported until their expiration date. M&S renewal purchases will
continue in 1 year increments until November 30, 2018.
The product End of Life (EoL) will be November 30, 2019.
Return Material Authorization (RMA)
The RMA process will continue to be supported in accordance with active M&S contracts through to November 30,
2019.

Replacement Products
The following table provides direct mapping of the EoS products to new products, their order availability dates and
links to product collateral such as data sheets etc. It’s important to note that new replacement (Shark) readers can
co-exist at installations where customers have existing Medusa readers.
The bundled M&S suffixes are the same for the new products as they were for the EoS products.

Software Dependencies
There is one software dependency as a result of this EoS notification. If the end customer requires HID decoding, a
server patch is required for Equitrac Office and Equitrac Express v5.2 or earlier. The patch can be accessed through
your standard support channels.
Additional Information
Please work with your Nuance Alliance Manager to identify any existing contracts with large scale deployments
involving EoS products that exceed the last time buy date noted above.
