1. OVERVIEW
The KCU-1P is a piece of equipment intended to generate KineChain protocol (motion codes), from
data provided through a USB port, to an ACM-II or ACM-II 230S actuator drive.
The KCU-1P features the following:
•
•
•
•
USB input through an USB type B jack – at the back of the unit.
MASTER OUT output through a RJ-45 jack – at the back of the unit.
POWER input, 48 VDC, 0.63 A – at the back of the unit.
A LED status indicator – at the front of the unit.
The rear plate of the KCU-1P unit is depicted below:

2. SOFTWARE INSTALLATION
Compatibility; the KCU-1P software is compatible with Windows Vista, Windows 7-8 (32-64 bits)
-
Access and download the KCU-1P drivers & software at www.d-box.com
Run the application and follow the on-screen instructions
3. HARDWARE INSTALLATION
WARNING: Do not connect the KCU-1P device into a Windows PC’s USB port until the software has
been installed. The driver installation process, which occurs as soon as the device is connected to the PC,
requires that the driver file be present on the PC.
WARNING: The KCU-1P has been designed to only work with D-BOX ACM-II. Do not connect the KCU-1P
to a regular D-BOX ACM.
Connect the KCU-1P to the ACM-II accordingly to the diagram below:

MASTER OUT
Use a shielded CAT.5E patch cord to connect the KCU-1P to a D-BOX ACM-II (Actuator Control
Module).
•
•
•
•
Make sure the CAT.5E patch cord is shielded: the RJ-45 at each end features a metal jacket.
Connect one end of the patch cord to the MASTER OUT jack of the KCU-1P.
Connect the other end of the patch cord to the Master In Port of the ACM-II.
The total length of the patch cord must not exceed 50 feet.
USB
Use a USB-A / USB-B cable to connect the KCU-1P to the computer (PC).
•
•
•
Connect the USB-B end of the cable to the USB plug of the KCU-1P.
Connect the USB-A end of the cable to the USB plug of the computer.
The total length of the USB cable must not exceed 6 feet.
POWER
The KCU-1P is provided with its 48 VDC, 0.63 A, 50-60Hz power unit.
•
•
Do not replace the power supply provided but with one from D-BOX.
Always connect the main power cord to a grounded plug.
4. POWER UP
At power up (48 Volts from the provided power supply is drawn to the unit), the LED located on the
front plate indicates the status of the KCU-1P. The boot up sequence is as follows:
•
•
•
RED: presence of the 48 V power but no USB connection.
ORANGE: Connected to the PC USB port, drivers are installed. The unit is ready to operate
GREEN: Active Motion
NOTE: When used to drive multiple ACM-II, one KCU-1P can drive the motion signal for a maximum
of 20 daisychained ACM-II. This limitation is imposed by the power supply unit.
