Discussion/Reports
--Elizabeth Buehl opened the session and welcomed Dr.
Tracy Harris, Vice President and Dean of the
Leonardtown Campus.
--Dr. Harris commented about enrollment, improved
signage, and strengthening partnerships with the Chamber
of Commerce, County Commissioners, and other
community groups. He described efforts to offer a few
classrooms with alternative layouts, like a horseshoe or
group tables format. He shared info about some
upcoming events at LEON and invited adjuncts to
volunteer to help out.

If you would like to get involved with any upcoming
concerts or events at LEON, contact Regina
Bowman-Goldring at [email protected].
--Everyone introduced themselves.

New Business
DAA Strategic Initiatives FY15:
Faculty Positions - Barbara Scotland and Ron Brown
will be working on developing options for different types
of faculty positions and how they fit together. They will
work to ensure the non-tenure to tenure conversion
process is put in place in accordance with the guidelines
developed last year and get faculty input on how that
process is working so we can make adjustments. They
will also consider some options you put forward, such as
"lecturer" positions. They will also work closely with the
next group, whose work may overlap.
Faculty Retirement Options - Bill Montgomery and
Patrick Allen have agreed to lead a renewed effort to
provide alternatives for retiring faculty. We are hopeful
that the faculty members who worked on this effort a few
years ago (and any other interested faculty) will join them
in reviewing and refining the previous proposal and
develop some new options as well.
Adjunct Faculty Pay Scale -- Kim Donnelly and Rob
Farinelli will be working on developing a proposal to
modify the adjunct faculty pay scale. Changes could
include new bands, different pay levels, etc. Please email them if you are interested in joining this group.
Contact the division chairs listed for each team if
you would like to join that work group.
Online Learning Plan - Jim Fehr and Sue Subocz
will lead a renewed effort to develop a plan to guide
online learning at CSM. They will be working with
the faculty Distance Learning Committee and DL
Liaisons. Other interested faculty are welcome to
join the effort.
First 24 Credits - Andrea Ronaldi, Laura Polk and
Michelle Simpson will be working on developing
plans to help students through their first 24 credits,
particularly in making their way through the
developmental sequence within the guidelines
established by the new legislation this summer, SB
740-College Readiness and Completion Act of 2013.
Though there will be some focus on the
developmental courses, feedback and ideas from
faculty in all disciplines would be helpful as we
consider the implications of the revised
developmental sequence, pre-requisite skills for
general education courses, and other such issues.
Edith Carron attended the Spring Diversity Institute,
which discussed the book Thank You for Your Service.
Edith will be planning an encore presentation of the
institute for adjunct faculty sometime this spring.
Contact Edith Carron ([email protected]) if you
would like to help plan the event or if you would
like to attend it.
Meeting adjourned @ 1:45 p.m.
Next meeting: Sat., 3/8/14 at Prince Frederick.
